Japan has lost to Paraguay in overtime by penalty kicks. I really should stop rooting for ANY teams, as they always seem to lose.
Why do Americans in general dislike soccer/football.
Because we have Football. No really.
Football = American Football
Soccer = International Football
#1: Soccer doesn’t have the level of marketing the NFL does. Look at the Super Bowl - there are commercials that run once - and only once - because it’s such a big deal. Plus the NFL plays off the glam and the glitz to the extreme: cheerleaders, ostentatious half time shows, color commentators, fancy football specific sets on the sports channels, etc.
#2: America doesn’t win the trophy in soccer. Everyone in the world knows that Americans have a self-centric nationality. We bicker among ourselves as individual states, but when there’s international challenge that threatens our nation as a whole, we suddenly become patriotic and nationalistic (which scares the shit out of foreigners for good and bad reasons). The real reason Americans watch soccer, is because we’re winning. Like we handle war or trade agreements, soon as we lose, we stop caring and want to quit. Americans also are isolationist, when it comes to international affairs… and soccer is an international affair. Soon as you start mentioning something about Spain or Italy winning something, Americans drone you out to see what’s going on in America.
#3: Football is ingrained into American culture, and Soccer is seen as a foreign ran inferior. We brainwash our kids into watching it with dad the day they can walk. Soon as they’re able to coordinate walking with other people, we shove our kids in jerseys and get them to play it. Elementary schools have kiddie football, so they can play in the junior varsity football in middle school, which is really just years of tryouts for high school football (enter the nerds and jocks socials), which is a weeding process for college football, so that only the best can be in the national football league. We have football cards, football action figures, football video games, clothing (see marketing in #1)… back in the 80’s we had football cartoons! It’s one of the rare instances when an American guy can have posters of another man hanging in his room, and not be accused of being gay. We’re more interested in the burley men who grab each other’s ass after scoring a point, than we are of the sexy boobies jumping up and down in miniskirts with pomp-pomps.
#4: Rules system. In American sports, the refs are trained and rules were changed to minimize interference on the players. Look at basketball and boxing. In the last 25 years, the entire system were changed to let things be legal. In basketball, what constituted double dribbling and traveling were changed: it made basketball a faster and more exciting sport - there are less fouls. A slamdunk in the 1950’s could have been a foul (no touching the rim). Today? It’s the norm. In soccer, the refs are ruling on everything and getting in the way… more than you see them in the NFL (and you hardly see them in the NBA). In addition, the lack of instant replays in soccer - a MAJOR cornerstone of American sports to make sure the right guy gets the points - is not there. Americans think there’s organized cheating going on, because of the refusal to accept it. In addition, Americans don’t understand (and sometimes disgusted when they do) the club/team politics that runs rampant in international soccer. Not to say American sports don’t have it (they do), but the style of how it goes on is… err… foreign… to Americans. And when Americans see something foreign they don’t like, we do our classic isolationist mode, to see what’s going on in America instead.
We don’t dislike soccer… we just have football.
- Too much so.
- That’s cause they don’t play against better teams. My opinion.
- Sexy boobies jumping up and down in miniskirts with pomp-pomps is all I care for if I ever watch football.
- Eh.

The real reason Japan doesn’t allow Akuma, is because they’re worried about the prophecy of someone becoming Kobushi o Kiwameshi Mono and mastering the dreaded Shun Goku Satsu.
I couldn’t agree more. I really enjoy movies with strong female leads, because there are just too damned few of them. ( http://thebraveone.warnerbros.com/ )
I frustrates the hell out of me when the “big strong man” has to come in and save the day, because everyone knows women aren’t capable of taking care of themselves. ( http://www.amazon.com/Elizabeth-Spec-Ca … _lmf_tit_9 )
Quoted because, not only is it true, it needs to be said more often. ( http://www.amazon.com/Alien-Directors-C … 767&sr=8-2 )
I’m kind of curious how you stumbled upon that video Yuri.
Mmmm let’s see… I was keying in “ja” into the brower url field to reach “you know”. Chrome normally recognizes the site I’m looking for but that day, it was misbehaving. Sooo… I hit “enter” way too fast, got shoved onto Google search results and got that from the search results. =P
Why? What about it? :mrgreen:
It is just a really odd thing to stumble upon, that’s all.
Wow… I didn’t know they made a “dark and grim” version of GI JOE…
Various episodes were free to stream (to promote the toyline). They kill. People die. Cities destroyed. Cobra Commander is actually scary as hell… and shows he he’s even stronger than Real Soviet Damage. :shock:
EDIT
Wonder Woman gets new duds…
Personally? I liked it better when goods were all hanging out.
No cleavage? No ass cheeks? No cheesecake? FAIL!!!
Don’t get me wrong… I’m all for cool women outfits that actually protect the body - would work for Batgirl - but Wonder Woman is supposed to let it all hang out.

I dunno about this … Isn’t he the guy who was predicting the “Wii HD”? It seems to me that this isn’t the only concern, that the battery life would be significantly impacted by shifting to a disc medium.
I’m in complete agreement Nandemonai. Moving to a disc based format would be a step backwards. Using a disc based system needlessly complicates the system, adding all kinds of moving parts and decreasing the lifetime of the device. There’s a reason my NES still works just fine after all these years, but my friend’s PSX doesn’t.
The other possibility mentioned of just having internal, non removable flash memory would just be annoying as hell to me. Of course, the issue is kind of a moot point for me. I only have a DS because I needed a relatively inexpensive electronic dictionary and study aid for Japanese; I have no cartridges for it that are just a game.
This message comes to you from my new 64-bit desktop with Windows 7. FINALLY. On Tuesday, the motherboard that the manufacturer sent to replace the one I sent for RMA over a month ago arrived. On the bright side, the board they supplied me with is an upgrade that has USB 3.0 and SATA 6, among other features.

Know how to understand your yandere, when she’s in Kill Mode¬ô
I’m quite surprised that any newspaper would actually print the claim that people would train monkeys on how to shoot live ammunition. That’s a good way to get your own guys killed. Plus, in that part of the world, they’re perfectly willing to use child soldiers. (Not that that’s a good thing, but from an operational perspective, better to use child soldiers than wild animals with guns.)
New character in Street Fighter 9: Uber Version Mega Edition
Chun-Loli, Strongest Girl in the World
Considered a cheap noob character, because she’s only damaged by sweeping attacks (all others just whiff over her head).
This Japanese cat is going to kill us all…
