I used to have a nation on that site years ago… was even in the top ten for military power at one time. This was back when NationStates2 was supposedly in development, and the site owner’s book wasn’t out yet. Made top ten in the military power lists, because there used to be this cookie exploit that allowed ya to get the same exact “daily question” over and over again.
I play Civilization 4 and 5 for all my world conquest needs.
Read a manga called Zipang. Modern Japanese warship time travels to WW2. Don’t know what the big deal about this series is… gets all sorts of awards in Japan. It’s got rightwing propaganda and a blatant ripoff on The Final Countdown (film not the song). Oh sure… it shows WW2 Japan as an “evil empire” – but it falls completely short of showing how evil Japan was (Rape of Nanking was viciously brutal, Japan was ultra prejudicial xenophobic to the extreme, etc). Does a great job at showing how underhanded America was though - even at points in history when America wasn’t underhanded.
But then I can’t fault the creator… guys like John Wayne and Harry Turtledove pretty much do the same on this side of the ocean… and America did it first with The Final Countdown anyways. I hate 'em all equally (really not a fan of revisionist fiction).
I am not a Conservative by a long shot, and I think the Tea Party movement will be the death of us all (you know they’d ban eroge if they had a shot at it), but Obama is stark raving mad for spending so much $$$ during his term. He’s spending like he’s Regan reborn… in a global economy that isn’t anywhere near as stable as the one Regan had. Our government owes something like 13.5 trillion dollars, of which Obama added 3.5 trillion and growing.
We need drastic spending cuts AND increased taxes for the rich and large corporations. It’s insane how General Electric pays NO federal income tax, and they make BILLIONS. So tax the corporate greed and stop spending 600 billion on a military that’s bloated and fighting wars it shouldn’t (not to mention LOSING and/or STALEMATE in those wars). Last I heard, the US comprises 45% of the entire world’s military budget. I think we can safely cut that to 25% and still stick our noses where it shouldn’t be.
The other problem however, is that we HAVE to cut Medi-care/caid and Social Security spending somehow. They match or exceed defense spending on their own…
We should just vote GLaDOS-chan for President. The political debates would probably go like this. :o
Well, the Tea Partiers have more or less guaranteed there will be no tax increases until they get thrown out. And we need tax increases.
Obama did what he did because cutting spending and raising taxes turns a recession into a depression. It was not a terribly good choice, but it was better than the alternatives.
Plenty of blame to go around. Everybody who’s been in Congress or the Oval Office for the last 25 years owns their fair share of the blame for this mess. And it’ll get worse before it gets better, since I fully expect the November cuts to fail to materialize. (I then expect Congress to get around the ‘mandatory cuts’ by simply repealing them, which S&P has already said will not impress them.)
Got re-addicted to Magic the Gathering – as if I don’t have enough expensive hobbies as it is right now. :x
On the bright side, I mostly play legacy sets so I can use my dusty old cards… and new commons are like 30 for $1 in the local game store (and even less on MtGO). :o
Currently brainstorming on a twincest themed deck.
