I think it was 5 or 10 posts. Someone can correct me with the right amount. But I believe the minimum post amount was just to make sure the account wasn’t a bot account.
I am not dead just lazy.
Haven’t found a yandere to lock you in her basement yet, huh?
Sadly, nope.

So… Egypt… is going through some deja vu.
I admit, I haven’t been following their internal politics, but I think they’re setting a bad precedence for themselves. I mean, the whole point of making a presidential system work, is keeping a president around for his entire term… even if you hate him… then elect a new one after his term is up. Isn’t that the point of him having a set term? If the US had the military overthrow a President, every time his approval ratings went below 40%… well… we’d have a new president a lot more often. Maybe they should follow a Prime Minster system, where they can get rid of him via a vote of no confidence or something? Besides… you can’t fix national problems in just a year. Obama has been spending 4+ years working over what Bush handed him.
But then… they say the Egyptian President was trying to make himself a dictator or transform Egypt into an Islamistan or something… Then again, if you listen to Conservatives in the US, Obama is trying to turn America into an Atheist Communist Nazi Muslim Dictatorship (yea… no fucking idea how that even makes sense)… so yea… can’t always listen to the opposition.
Whatever. It’s for the Egyptians to figure out, since it’s their country… and I’m glad the overthrow didn’t involve a nation shattering civil war. If they think it’s what’s best for their nation, well, more power to them.
I just keep seeing the same pattern over and over again, which proves without a doubt, the military is the TRUE power in Egypt.

Except Morsi actually is that; or rather, he’s Mubarak 2.0… and besides, the people of Egypt didn’t exactly vote for him by a majority; unfortunately some of the more moderate candidates, like Shafik, split the vote. Yes, it’s unsettling for the military to be able to remove a president whenever they want, but this was still a superior outcome to allowing the guy to stay in power.
Hopefully this time they can elect a new boss that’s not same as the old boss.
and besides, the people of Egypt didn’t exactly vote for him by a majority; most people voted for the two moderate candidates who unfortunately split the vote.
But he didn’t cheat the election did he? I mean, from all evidence, he won fair and square. There’s a lot of US Presidents who didn’t win via majority. Hell, because of the system, a president can win without the popular vote! We don’t go overthrowing the system if such a president sucks balls during his term. What if the next president is honestly not trying to be a dictator, but their economy continues to collapse? After a year, do they have the military get rid of him too? You can’t run a country like that.
Plus it’s pretty obvious, that he did have obstructionists in the government, every time he tried to pass something worthwhile. ALL forms of governments have that, unless you’re the absolute supreme leader. Look how hard it is to pass a decent economic package in the US or Europe… let alone a chaos zone like Egypt…
Part of the reason why Egypt’s economy is crap, is because they don’t have a stable government, which keeps investors and tourists out. This chain of events is only going to make things worst. Economists don’t give a crap about form of government – just stability. The Middle East is full of countries that have dictatorships, but stable societies (Saudi Arabia and the UAE for example). I’m not saying I think dictatorships are great, but democracy doesn’t always work either. Iraq, Afghanistan, and half of Africa are obvious proof of that.
Egypt needs to pick a form of government, stick with it, and rebuild their country. If all they do is overthrow the system each year, it’s just going to get worst and worst, with no way to fix anything. No nation with a shattered economy or government system, will ever be successful. It doesn’t matter if it’s a dictatorship or a democracy. But fixing a shattered economy and government system takes time… and certainly more than a year.
EDIT
Again, I’ve not been following Egypt’s issues closely, so I’m just giving my opinion from a detached observational standpoint. If they want a new leader, fine… and it’s cool they got their way… but their problems aren’t going to go away overnight. If anything, it will only cause more power plays, and emboldens the military to just put a puppet on the throne. If the next leader isn’t what they want, they can rig events to make the country suck more, and create a scenario where they can just overthrow him. Who’s to really say that wasn’t going on already? I don’t exactly trust the power base that kept the last dictator in control for 40 years. Everything about Egypt’s government changed, EXCEPT the military.
The problem was he was ramming through constitutional changes against heated opposition to make things easy for him. He tried to announce by presidential decree that his decisions were immune from judicial review. Basically, he acted like someone who won in a landslide when he barely won, and also acted like winning the election made him dictator.
It was going in a bad way. It’s obviously gotten worse now. But if the military really wanted to be in charge, they would never have tried to transition to democratically-elected leadership at all, much less put up with this nonsense for a year. Frankly I trust them more than I do Morsi (which is kind of a terrifying thought).
I’m finally getting an ultrabook to replace my old desktop. Supposedly an external optical drive will allow me to play PC games on it, but does anyone know if an external drive is eroge-compatible? Because eroge aren’t in English by default, I’m thinking there might be text display issues for the ultrabook. Or maybe I ought to just get a bigger machine with the drive built-in…

Whether your optical drive is internal or external has nothing to do with eroge compatibility; an external drive will be fine. Text display issues are totally unrelated to the drive.
Now, text display issues, region checks and other things can be 100% routed around (assuming Windows 7, but the same should apply to Vista and 8 hopefully):
- using all Japanese region settings (non-unicode charset, text settings and other things)
- using a Japanese MUI (look at the program ‘vistalizator’) - this is equivalent to installing Japanese Windows so if you are installing that you won’t need to do this or the previous step
- setting your timezone to UTC+9 Tokyo time (this is just for a couple of minori games - if you don’t play them, don’t worry about this. It doesn’t bother me much because I live very close to +9, but for other people this could be really annoying)

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or just don’t bother at all with Western PC gaming), The Sims 4 is generating a lot of news. It looks really nice.
BUT!!
$70 to preorder. SEVENTY DOLLARS!! For a game that will – if the Sims 1, 2, & 3 reboots have told us anything – only contain base features and resets everything the expansions provided back to zero. So people are gonna pay $70 for what is basically just The Sims 3 – the just vanilla core game that you can get off Ebay for $10 to $15 – because it looks prettier.
And if you wanna have vampires, pets, seasons, holidays, etc… gotta rebuy all the expansions again, but this time, for Sims 4. Good job EA. You know how to milk it.
Much as I love The Sims, I don’t think I’m gonna be joining the fourth generation. Nonetheless, it’s probably going to be one of the best selling games of all time. Because that’s what Sims 1, 2, & 3 were…
And people say The iDOLM@STER was a DLC hog.
Clowns have always been scary. I think that originally–way back there in prehistoric times–they were meant to be. Also, the character Baron Saturday from the VooDou religion comes to mind. He’s like the Joker, funny but also the god of death. Over time we always turn or monsters into clowns (re: Frankenberry).
