It's coming along
nicely ^_^. And, nope, they didn't get drunk. They're far too disclipined for that

Plus I think it would be kind of hard for lemons to ferment, what with them being quite acidic...

*goes hunting for the pancake batter*

Sorry, I'm fresh out of pancake batter. How 'bout a rant instead?

...there is no hentai to be found here (except perhaps Water Closet and XChange 1). 'Hentai' is a very derogatory word meaning 'pervert' or 'perverted'. That'd be the equivalent of calling it "Nasty XXX porn". I wouldn't call these games porn; they aren't just about the sex (at least most aren't).

I had some free time at work (yeah, that happens! ), and the OVA series is being released soon, so I decided to write a short presentation of…
TORAHA3!!! ^^;;;;;

This presentation is to be read after the one about Toraha 1&2, of course.

As always, first, disclaimers: please look at my recommendations score to see what my opinion is worth; meaning I’m usually easily pleased with a game. ^^

Graphics: similar to the previous games… but better, since the game is more recent. It uses drawn backgrounds and not real sceneries like in #1. You can go to either the official Toraha page or Janis game page to see samples.

Music: excellent. It’s orchestred by “I’Ve Sound” if it’s any indication. The OP and EDs are sung by KOTOKO and MELL!!!

Gameplay: similar to the previous ones, except you’re not restrained this time to only one location, but you can move to defined locations in the town via a map. Among those locations, you can move on exact rooms for two locations (i.e. there’s a submap for them): your house and your school.

Characters: as previously, Toraha3 has an original set of characters. From the martial artists to the maid-robot to the vampire to the miko to the singer-to-be, all with their own story and personnality. Pictures are here. Seven are winnable (with one secret one). Oh, and I just love the seiyuu cast! Kodama Satomi, Torii Kanon, Nagasaki Minami, Umihara Erena, Hokuto Minami…
For people who don’t read Japanese, you have:
* Takamachi Miyuki: your oldest little sister. You have the duty to teach her swordmastery. Horrible cook.
* Joushima Akira: a family friend, who lives with your family for her scholarship. Calls you “shishou” (“teacher”, usually a martial art teacher) for some reasons. Very good cook. Practices kenpo.
* Fou Ren Fei: a family friend, who lives with your family for her scholarship. Calls you “shishou” (“teacher”, usually a martial art teacher) for some reasons. Very good cook. In fact, her and Akira are best friends and rivals and quarrel all the time. Practices bojutsu. Loves turtles.
* Fiasse Crystella: your father died protecting her father and her. This event created a powerful link between her, your sister Miyuki and yourself. She’s working at your mother tea shop “Midoriya”. She’s also taking singing courses to become a singer; her mother leads a very famous songschool.
* Kanzaki Nami: is in the same grade as your sister Miyuki. Has a part-time job as a miko. Her kitsune pet is Kuon.
* Tsukimura Shinobu: your classmate. Her family is very rich, though she lives alone in her (huge!) mansion with her maid Noel. Favourite pastime is sleeping in class and video games!
* Noel: Shinobu’s maid. Took care of her since her parents death. Very kind girl of little word.
* Takamachi Momoko: your genki mother. Works at the Midoriya as the master cook.
* Takamachi Nanaho: your youngest sister. Bright, expert with everything electronic or computer-related. She will adopt Kuon as her best friend. Only known person who can stop Akira and Ren from quarrelling.

Those characters aren’t shown but are part of your friends:
* Yuugo: your best male friend. Captain (IIRC) of your school’s kendo club.
* Yawaza Fillis: Fiasse’s personal physician and close friend.

Why I like the game or “my try to get you hooked on the game”.

In my heart, Toraha1’s success was due to its set of female characters and Toraha2 due to its atmosphere… Toraha3 had both.
In Toraha3, you’re playing Takamachi Kyouya, oldest child and only son of the Takamachi family. Your father was a bodyguard and died in duty, leaving you as the male figure of your house and with the charge of your family sword-style. Toraha3’s setting is very original. First, you live with your family, your true family, including your sisters (Miyuki and Nanoha) and your mother (Momoko). Yeah! One of your parent is living with you!!! Quite exceptional in ren’ai games, right? ^
-
You also live with two family friends (Ren and Akira) and the daughter of the people your father died protecting (Fiasse), which is like your older sister to Miyuki and yourself.
The second original point is (IMHO) your character himself. Contrary to most ren’ai games hero, Kyouya is quite bright, courageous, brave, dutyful, hardworker, honourable, etc. a little like a modern samurai. As he’s the inheritor of his family’s honor and martial arts style, he’s also responsible for teaching this style to his sister Miyuki (not Nanoha, probably because she’s just too young ). In fact, I respected Kyouya; I think he’s the only ren’ai games protagonist I ever respected and wished I was: he matches quite an ideal manly figure to me. ^^;;;;;
Third, some female characters are in the game because they’re important to you, because they’re part of your life. But they’re NOT winnable, because it wouldn’t be right. As it should be.
At last, there is one good ending with one female character (the best ending for her IMO) which does NOT include any romantic relationship between you and her! And it’s a totally “normal” ending, meaning you didn’t miss the story (you just miss the sex scenes )

Toraha3 uses the same formula than Toraha1&2: you first get to “live your life” and, as the player, to meet, live and love the characters your character is supposed to interact with. This may be the part I love best, as I enjoy most this family atmosphere. Then, follows a part where you’ll spend more time with one of the girls (and less with the others ) as you develop a special relationship with her. Some “crisis” happens, troubling this “everyday life” and you had to resolve it.

As previously, Toraha3 manage to have different kind of stories: from the story with supernatural elements of Nami to the one with futurist elements of Shinobu to the drama of Ren’s story to the samurai action story of Miyuki and Fiasse, with of course, the heartful everyday comedy of your life (Toraha3 contains some fav. events of mine [in ren’ai games]).

At last, Toraha3 happens in the same universe as the previous game. However, it is much better integrated here, giving the player the opportunity to meet people he loved years ago and see what they became. Toraha3 happens several years after Toraha1 and Toraha2. In what follows are some of my personal guess about the continuity; in such case, I’ll mark what is said with “PG”.
P.S. Some more info about some characters are given in the drama CD and the toybox. I won’t talk about them now, though.

Many years flow since Toraha1.
Sakura is now a fine (and very beautiful) woman. We get to see her as she goes and visit her niece, Tsukimura Shinobu.
Yuiko is back to her own school, this time as a sports teacher. Among her students, there are Akira and Ren.
(PG) No news about Kotori and Shin’ichirou. I personnally think they ended together… ^o^

Many years flow since Toraha2.
Yuuhi is now a very famous singer and took SEENA as her stage name. She met and befriend Fiasse in her songschool. She’s also Shinobu’s fav. singer.
Lhissty is working for the police and became a heavy smoker.
Ai is still taking care of the Sazanami dormitory, along with Kousuke. (PG) I personnally think they married together, as Lhissty took the name of Makihara; that happens in the Toraha2 scenario where Kousuke marries Ai and adopt Lhissty.
Fillis, Lhissty’s sister, was adopted by Yawaza-sensei, once responsible for Chika. She became a doctor like her father and is Fiasse’s personal doctor and close friend.
Kaoru is now a full-fledge demon-hunter for her family. Nami is her little sister.

I could tell a lot more about the characters and their stories, and not without spoilers. I could tell a lot more about the characters in relation to the whole Toraha world, but I’d need to talk before about the drama CDs and the toybox.

So I stop here.

It was a bit short, but I hope I got you interested. Next, before the new OVA series is released, I’ll talk about the drama CDs, the toyboxes, the first OVA series and then try to tie together everything I wrote about Toraha!
