According to my friend Miko, multiple sakura celebrations are observed each Spring for different varieties of tree. The season is pretty much over by mid-April near Osaka.
She wrote this on April 10th: Unfortunately, the best season of the most famous sakura is over around here. But, as different kinds of sakura blossom (yaezakura) are blooming, I'll have a few pictures taken against the background of some of the trees. yaezukura blossom [damned hotlink blocker!]
