SADDEST MOMENTS IN GAMING HISTORY!!!!!

Post your saddest moments in gaming history.

Mine was when Aerith dies and then you “buriey her” but, then later if you go back to the church your first found Aerith in you see her goast and that make you even more sad.

Here’s two that got to me: When Harry is killed in Snatcher, and when Hobbes turns out to be a traitor in Wing Commander 3 (3do version, the PC version was missing some stuff).

When Mercury gets Deleted in the “Reformat” level in Tron 2.0

I admit, Final Fantasy VII hit me badly too.
On my first playthrough everytime when Aerith’s theme was played after she died and on any further playthrough already in advance because I knew what was going to happen later.

But this all still pales in comparison to Kana ending #5 that I got after my first playthrough.
Then, it took me 24 hours becoming able to think of the game without breaking down in tears again. And I rested for two weeks before I dared to confront myself with the theme-song.

That's actually something that remained in the game but was supposed to be removed. There was a quest where you would revive Aeris (<- correct translation), but due to lack of time they have left that out. The ghost you see was part of that quests, but they forgot to remove it.

Lufia and The Fortress of Doom - At the end, but I won't spoil, since the game isn't that known.

Phantasy Star II - When Nei died.

Phantasy Star IV - When Alys died.

Phantasy Star Online: Episode III - Break and Sophia...

How can you have lack of time in a game, it's not like a movie that cannot run over x hours is it?

That would have been a nice quest to have in the game or might have been a very nice quest.

Several from Kana come to mind as some of the saddest moments in gaming history to me, some endings more then others like the second and third endings if I remember what they are correctly.

slight ending spoilers

Of those endings both the one where the PC basically loses it and the one with her locket recorder that he plays come to mind as two of the saddest from a game that brought lots of tears.

end of spoiler

Lack of time during production not during gameplay. Even games have deadlines, which is why many games come out really, really buggy because they basically push them out the door before they’re properly cleaned up.

Exactly. That's what I meant.

Ah okay, I thought you meant gameplay time I see what you mean now, makes sense even if it is horrible that they rush the production to the point of buggy games and scenes that are not finished.

Definitely Kana’s death… pick whichever path. But I get choked up thinking about the locket, and I get choked up thinking about the snow… and the parnassis.

Actually this is not true and is a very pernicious rumor. The guy who started this rumor has confessed and posted a lengthy explanation ... let me see ...

OK, I can't find the original retraction the guy posted. In short he pretended to be a translator for the game and posted a story that he deliberately inserted errors in, to tell people it was bogus, because he was fed up with people coming in and asking about it. (I'm not sure why he thought starting rumors would help.)

(the original retraction is there but it's hard to find...I'll try to find a better link)

...

Ah, here we go. Found it!

Ah, thanks. Read all three pages entirely. The first link you gave had it, and wasn’t hard to find, but not so pleasant to read. The third link was well-structured, though.

Heh… This further proves how most FF7 fans are just fanboys with little intelligence…
cough GameFAQs cough

Drifing off topic a little, but…

Bah!

All you people are COMMIE MUTANT TRAITORS, ya hear?

It’s all about Final Fantasy VI, you hear? SIX! It’s 6, not 3, even if it was called 3 in the American Release, just because Nintendo of America is full of COMMIE MUTANT TRAITORS!!!

You kids today are SPOILED by 3D graphics… back in MY days, we had to work with 2D sprites, and thus, we needed a darn STORYLINE, you hear me, STORYLINE!!!

//note: Vaga42Bond was tranqulized by the authorities at this point.

Bah, you FF VII Fans… mutters something about “Commie Mutant Traitors”… FF VI was better, damn you kids… it had STORY… It had PLOT… it had SPRITES… why, in MY days, we had to IMAGINE the FF women… and besides, the Opera Scene, while not sad, owns all… if you want sad, the scene where Celes (tries) to kill herself was dramatic enough… and the ending where you finally confront Kefka, with more Kefka-isms…

(Taking FF VI Fandom to a new level of fanatcism. Heh. XD )

Sadder moment found when in ff7 you see Red XIII finally know the truth of how his dad dies. That was pretty sad.

Go play Mega Man X2 or X3 and come back and say that again. Or Super Castlevania IV. I dare you.

I liked the first world of the game, but it went downhill in the second world, and the ending sucked ass. To me, this made the entire game bad. So, I don't like FFVI.

FFV rules. I love it.

So any other genre than RPG was bad in 2D? Get real.

Oh yeah? adopts “old geezer voice” Well back in my day, we had to rely on text for games… they didn’t have sprites or pixies, or whatever you call them damn things! We actually had to read the stories, so they actually had to have some form of content… I mean what could be more meaningful than Zork, right?

Bah. Even better, way back then, we didn’t even HAVE electionic games… all we had were pencils and papers! Can you imagine trying to play a Bishoujo Game with nothing but what amounted to a low tech etch-a-sketch? And we LIKED it!

XD

(Old Geezer Talk is fun.)

Well, in MY day we didn’t have those fancy stuff! No pencils and papers! We had to use CRAY and a blackboard to play games! We were lucky to even have multiple colors!

Um. A Cray is a supercomputer. At least about 10 years ago they were supposed to be pretty awesome, don’t know if they’re still around (the market for special supercomputers is going away as they’re not really necessary anymore).
