Sakura Taisen 5 on March 23rd

And just to give you an idea of how inconsistent the SCEA is with stuff like that:

Yea. Figure that one out.

Though if you’ve been following my rantings on the Tokimeki Memorial 4 thread, you already know that the SCEA has a prejudice against b-games in general: making it harder than it should be.

Yep. They have many inconsistencies. If you’ve read some of my threads you’ll know that they requiring English VAing for NA releases, unless your title happens to be Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Have they said anything about possible release of the DS versions of Sakura Taisen?

Well, you see, they consider them not to be games (whereas they totally are) so…

Personal rant. Please wear rant protection.

I’ve been seeing on various game site here and there, quite a number of people lamenting about this NIS interview. The poor sales of SW5 and that SCEA is being draconian about visual novels.

Where the hell are these people when it’s time to buy the game?

Okay. SW5 was hard to find in stores. NIS has an online store and Amazon was carrying a lot of them. Screw GameStop: they’re not the only source of games. Don’t own a Wii? So what? Could have bought the $30 game to support NIS. Consider it an investment for the future (of bgaming and Sakura Taisen). I’ve wasted $30 on things much worst. BestBuy and Walmart have 'em now: go get the damn thing. Don’t wait for a bargain bin sale: you’re screwing yourselves and NIS America.

I’d actually have been happier to see people just accept the interview at face value. Reading “angry responses” about the SCEA or that SW5 failed, had suddenly become annoying, after seeing so many of them. If there were that many BUYERS of the game, that interview would have gone a lot different.

Companies have gone back to the SCEA to get a game reapproved. It’s not like there’s a death squad at the doors. It just takes more $$$ to get the paperwork through: there’s a penalty fee for reprocessing a rejected title. The deciding factor is if it’s worth paying $$$ to get it reprocessed.

Ugh… when will gamers learn that BUYING is what determines the games that are released.

Go post that on those sites. You’re preaching to the choir here (i bought 2 PS2 copies, including 1 from RoseQueen).

I think the 2-year timeframe may have been largely eaten up by the Wii port though.

Shockingly enough I found THREE copies of the PS2 version at Fry’s today. I found it rather odd considering I had checked there multiple times and found nothing. In fact these were the ONLY copies of it for the PS2 I had seen anywhere I’d gone. Whether this is a good sign or not I have no idea.

On another note even as early in as I am, a bit into the first chapter, I can tell that the subtitles on the JP version are most likely based on the dub, there have been a few times where I’ve just raised an eyebrow comparing what was said and what was translated. Then again, why they felt the need to translate comments made in clear English into something different is beyond me. (example: “Your Welcome!” turned into “Think Nothing Of It!”) :?

NIS probably didn’t. Sony probably did.

Since a new Sakura Taisen game may be coming out on Wii (maybe because it’s debatable as to whether this pic is a hoax or not):

What’s the chance we’ll get this in English if it’s real? I mean Nintendo seems a bit more lax towards VN-ish games than Sony

Don’t trust that picture. :expressionless:

There’s have been some… investment opportunities… for a new Sakura Taisen, which started around two years ago. This is why the theater shows have been started up again intermittently (the money to have them began flowing in).

That being said: ST5 was a commercial failure in the West, despite the positive reviews. NIS America took a gamble and lost… no… we all lost. Other console companies aren’t interested in VN’s, after that major disappointment. NIS was our biggest hope. Had ST5 sold 500,000 copies or more, we’d already be hearing announcements for a TokiMemo4.

If we were “0” before Sakura Wars 5 was released, we’re completely in the negatives now. Whenever western investors hear about VN’s, they’re only gonna remember two titles: Brooktown High and Sakura Wars 5. We can blame whatever we want, but to the people who pay for these things, it only shows there’s no point.
