School Days HQ Discussion Thread

Seeing that certain scenes in Shiny Days had to be censored/cut, I wonder whether School Days HQ suffered the same fate back then. Or can anyone confirm that School Days HQ is indeed 100% uncensored?

School Days HQ is not censored. There were no loli scenes to censor in the first place.

So I’ve been trying to complete my copy of School Days HQ while waiting for patches on Shiny Days and I’m stuck at 86%. I have every ending, but I am missing 4 h-scenes and 3 bubbles on the route map. Alot of the guides I’ve found don’t help with this sort of thing or are very confusing. So I thought I would try asking here in case someone might be willing to help me reach 100%. ;o;(I will post screens of my missing bubbles and h-scenes later)

Well, I just installed School Days HQ as well.
And to be honest... I just don't like it.

The unlikable main character aside, it's just not my prefered kind of Visual Novel.
It's basically watching a movie play and having the option to marginally change the story.
Sure, I'm still at the beginning, but I miss actually textboxes (or text being scattered throughout the entire screen, that's also fine).

If I'd want to watch an anime, I'd do just that.
If I'd want to watch anime porn, I'd go watch some hentai.
If I'd want to see crazy ass shit happening, I'd go watch a horror movie or a splatterfest.

Can't say I like it, but like everything, School Days HQ is subject to approval.
No matter how the plot will unfold, the whole premise to play this game just doesn't get me.

So... ''Script version does not match.'', it says.
Can save, but can't load my saves, running on Windows Vista.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but am I doing something wrong?
And is it normal that School Days HQ tells me that it runs version 1.00 at the top, even though I put the latest patch data into the respective directories?

Nevermind, got it to work.
But seriously, an incomplete/missing registry key in the files?
No wonder Overflow doesn't bring out games anymore, if they they released their games in such a disastrous condition.
Atleast I can save/load properly now, have text, and can toggle between fullscreen and window mode.

But seriously... but to be fair, it wasn't neither Jast's nor Sekai Project's fault.
Let's see if this interactive movie visual novel can get me change the impression I have of it so far.

For one of the Halloween entries of 2015 we'll be taking a look at School Days HQ:

It's a pretty fair review. I'm actually surprised you didn't mention the crashes.

I think you're a bit hard on the multi-path storyline. I see the incredible amount of branching as a feature that draws the player in. My main gripe is that different paths lead to duplicate scenes and duplicate endings on the scenario map, which is kind of irritating. I would've appreciated if duplicate scenes would've triggered the "skip read text" function, and if duplicate endings were depicted as one node rather than several. In any case, I see the writing as one of the strong points of the series.

I thought the anime was a poor adaptation that loses the immersive quality of the VN. The choices are important for putting the player in Makoto's shoes and showcasing the difficult situations Makoto finds himself in. In the anime Makoto is simply portrayed as a jerk, which fails to engage the viewer.

I agree that Makoto gets a bad rap. I'm not sure why people have so much trouble identifying with him. I can easily understand his social awkwardness and desire to try and avoid hurting anyone, all the while feeling his attention and feelings pulled in different directions. The game does a very good job of making it feel like there aren't really any good choices and nudging you to yo-yo between heroines as the relationships go through their ups and downs.

Thanks for the comment.

I didn’t mention the game crashing because as far as I remember it didn’t happen with me.

As for the multipath thing, fair enough. Your argument in its defense makes sense; it could be I just wanted or expected more considering how good an impression I got from the characters.

Glad I’m not the only one who dislikes the anime; I have seen so many people praise it as this smart deconstruction of the harem genre I’ve been questioning if it was just me who thought the only reason for Makoto’s portrayal was to justify the “Nice Boat” ending.

Which patch is the lastest and greatest for School Days? The one on JAST's game patches page or the one on the School Days Website?

I'd assume 1.02 is the latest version, but they're probably the same patch. Download both and check the file sizes and creation dates.

i won’t update after censored shining days i am afraid they censored my version

That's probably the most ridiculous manifestation of paranoia I've come across lately. You do realize JAST has zero incentive to implement censorship in an optional patch which only a fraction of users will install... right?

no actually i didn’t know

Overall “skipping” isnt really recommended in this game series (School Days, Summer Days, Shiny Days) unless you’re absolutely sure you already did the exact same route at least once. It’s better to use the fast forward fonction, that way if you come over an unseen dialog / scene, the game will come back to the x1 play and you’ll know you’re in unknown territory… skipping might end up screwing you in many ways.

Fast forward is the way to go to avoid repetitive stuff without missing anything, but dont forget to pause regularly and save your progression cause it makes the game crash if you do it for an extended period of time. (Note that skipping can make the game crash also anyway)

I found that Shiny Days is pretty stable if you run the game in windowed mode. I’d assume the same is true for School Days HQ.

It was a toss up for me… some times i’d start it up, skip 4 scenes and it says no… other times I can go 10 or 11 before i get paranoid and save and then do 1 or 2 more before it crashes… (this was a mix of windowed and FS on the same laptop). I need to go back and get the rest of the endings still, but it’s been a bunch of years (SDHQ) so i probably wont be doing much skipping :stuck_out_tongue:

Can someone please tell me how to read the Route Maps for School Days HQ and Shinny Days? All the guides I found are really difficult to make sense from.

So, I dont know why this is happening to me, but when I was trying to install School Days HQ, an error occurred, which prevented me from finishing the installation. Please tell me what I’m doing wrong. Am I supposed to install a patch? I I have no idea.

If this is the disc version, then this can happen when antivirus software interferes with the installation. If it's the DL version, then it can happen if the data files were not downloaded completely, and they will need to be downloaded again.
