School Days HQ official thread/FAQ

^^;
Errr… i’ll be direct : the MPEg format is not what you call compressed. In fact, most of the time MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are considered like raw (since MPEg-1 was used on VCD and S-VCD and MPEG-2 on early DVD)
Why i’m talking about MPEG? because it’s most likely the case since the MPEG can be played by 99% of the PC.

Now, if i remember, SDHQ use MPEG-4… for information Xvid in a hack of the MPEG-4… Well more exactly is the continuation of the dead Open MPEG-4… Which was an Open and optimized version of the MPEG-4…

So comprssed? Maybe… But not highly compressed at all.

And there is one left option : creating “ISO” of the DvD and compressing them…And this it’s easy to compress.
See… there is always solution.

They are most definitely compressed by any definition of the term ‘compressed’- yes, they have very wide compatibility, are quite old now and aren’t wonderful, but they’re definitely compressed.

It uses WMV, same as the original game. WMV 9 is generally considered comparable to MPEG-4 AVC (H264), which is largely considered to be the state of the art in terms of video compression.

xvid is an implementation of the MPEG-4 ASP (Advanced Simple Profile) - the difference between MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 ASP is pretty large, too.

Yes highly compressed- especially compared to the raw video, or even the YV12 video.

An image file made from a DVD contains the information on the DVD- of course it does, otherwise there wouldn’t be much point in using it.

The information on the DVD is mostly video data- you know, the thing that takes up the most space in School Days.

Attempting to losslessly compress the DVD would be about as effective as losslessly compressing the video files directly. In other words, not at all. The only space you’d save compressing it would be in the compression of stuff you could probably compress better by itself anyway.

Correct. School Days and School Days HQ uses WMV for video. On top of that, it also uses PNG for still images. At a bitrate of 1.5Mbps, the video is already compressed fairly well, while PNG effectively halves the size of a RAW image. Going JPEG would save a bit more space, but artifacting and quality loss would occur.

Like Lancer-X said, even if the game was using MPEG-2 that video format is still compressed. Every video format that exists compresses video data during the encode. Raw RGB video is the only uncompressed format, and that runs at a bitrate of about 1Gbps at SDHQ resolution. If the game used that, you’d might as well ship the game on a hard drive.

That also does not use compression. ISO is a container format.

This reminds me of the 90s when people zipped each file then zipped those and then stuffed into rar thinking they can get the smallest size.

So how many game breaking bugs will be in this version fo SUmmer Days? lol

Hopefully, not as many as the retail version of Animamundi. Sinking 20 hours into a game only to find out that it is literally impossible to finish can be pretty irritating (luckily, I waited before starting my run of the game, so the patch was ready by then). Sadly, there are still bugs in the game; you cannot obtain the final three items in the Alchemy Chart, but a little creative memory hacking lets you see exactly what’s missing.

Makoto Itou: Banging everyone and their mom since 2005.

The original Summer Days on release was about as broken as eroge can be-- at least, until Mahou Shoujo Ai 3 came along and broke all records in that category wwwww

Anyway, I don’t think 0verflow will slip up like that again, but that doesn’t mean they won’t troll their fans in some other way (look at Cross Days!)

my guess is fixing all the issues is going to make this come out next year

jast changed the school days to 2012 http://schooldays.us/
my guess is they figured there was no way they would get it out this year

I wonder if this will release before or after the next Batman movie.

I wonder if this will release before or after the next Transformers movie.

EDIT: … apparently there actually is a next Transformers movie already scheduled. I was kidding :(((

Yeah, almost certainly after the next Transformers movie, since it comes out in like a week.
