So how do you enjoy your h-games?

I wish erogames would beat the 1024x768 resolution, indeed. Someone tells the industry it’s an obsolete one nowadays!

As most are hand-drawn, not 3D model rendered those extra pixels are a lot more to ask for than on most other games.

All they have to do is use a good editing program to scale them with little to no quality loss, they could even do this with existing games.

In dead silence…
We need to completely shut down all our senses except for our hearing and vision… 8)
By doing so, we are able to view every bit of detail from the scenes and at the same time…being alert enough to hear if other humans are moving around or about to enter the room… Such that we can react immediately by quickly revolving mine cube desktop to a plain one…and pretending to program something…

We sometimes re-activate the voices and sound effects… And sometimes the BGM…
This is done mostly during daytime and evening… When we’re sure that the game we’re playing is not heavy on the sexual/ero content…more like the light hearted ones…and when we are pump enough to completely focus when there are other noises around…

But during the night… Where you have no way of knowing if others are still awake outside your jurisdiction…
We go for the first setting mentioned… Ne…?

Then you’d either be stretching them or cutting off the top or bottom.

Only if you want to change the aspect ratio. I would settle for the same ratio but a larger window…even 1280*1024 would be alot better on my 20" widescreen.

Example, here’s a quick upscale of a screen capture I did with some crappy software called Arcsoft Photostudio…

And the result is ugly. There’s no such thing as “no loss” in upscaling or downscaling a picture. Anyone who thinks otherwise should learn mathematics. :stuck_out_tongue:

(The essence is that you’re adding information when upscaling, using sampling algorithms to determine which information, but not algorithm can perfectly translate the correlation between the points of an image, and you’re downscaling, you’re removing information).

OLF hits it on the nose. If you direct rip the “picture files” from most ero titles, you’ll find that they are within the region of 800x600. There’s been a growing trend for them to be at 1024x768, but it’s nearly unheard of for them to be any bigger.

Now the question: Why?

Well first off, as OLF said, most titles are expected to be played at a monitor setting of 1024x768 or even 800x600… and 800x600 still looks fine at 1024x768 resolution.

Another reason is that some of the game engines which the titles run on, require the file to be exactly 800x600 or 1024x768 (or whatever)¬ñ the company would have to retool or make a new game engine. And some don’t wanna “reinvent the wheel” at the moment. That’s commonly why “renewals” feature greater resolution - because that part of the engine is new and/or retooled.

Yet another reason is file size. With the advent of DVD this isn’t too much an issue, but some companies still prefer to release titles on CD media for whatever reasons. Therefore higher resolution means larger file size, which means more CD’s ¬ñ and that can increase production costs.

Last but not least: artist preference. Some artists prefer drawing for a certain resolution size. I’ve read quite a few articles where “Illustrator X” claims 800x600 or 1024x768 is his optimal dimension of choice. Now that might seem trivial to most people, but artists are perfectionists: and even the most trivial thing means a whole lot to them.

still uses 1024x768 resolution

Edit - Warning: image spoiler for Yume Miru Kusuri follows:

You don’t lose that much quality, I ran it through a filter or two…

Ero tend to use PNG, GIF, and BMP file formats for their games. Some of the “big companies” even have their own proprietary image format. To do what you want, all they need is to switch to a superior medium. For example SVG or PSD.

However such a thing - as I mentioned before - requires retooling the game engine and/or more file space. In the case of something like PSD (or a copy cat file format of it), a LOT more file space. I think it’s just more reasonable for them to go SVG. However that probably won’t happen, so long as they can get away with the file formats their using now.

WOAH, holy spoilers. I’m going to add a warning to your post, if you don’t mind. ^^;

Oh yeah, whoops. I’ll take it down since the point was made anyway.

The human brain can do it, more or less. (I wouldn’t want to try it on text that’s too small to read, for instance, but if it CAN be read, people can more or less effortlessly scale it to arbitrary size.) But the human brain can do a lot of things effortlessly that turn out to be fiendishly difficult to program a computer to do acceptably.

Image autoenlarging would basically be some kind of magic compression scheme; if you could perfectly extrapolate from one to the other, you could use the small dataset as code for the big dataset, and get ludicrous compression ratios.

Well, it is hard enough when your own brethren and sister’s disturbing you on your decisions and dictating on which path you should take… It’s truly annoying when most choices are made through votes or debates…anyone would not want any more people to just join in with decision making…ne…?

Anyway, I remember we had watched somethin’ like porn about twelve years ago… I thought I was seeing a wrestling match… :expressionless:

Once you get into eroges and Hentai, you start seeing porn as kind of screwed up. XD

I remember watching that stuff and I did not get turned on.

Anyway its better if no one knows shit about them. Saves me a whole lot less trouble to explain.

I understand the confusion… And to be honest… That incident happened perhaps two years before we turned ten…
On such childhood days where boys consider girls nemesis and mostly make fun of them… No sooner that I learned that that was something else… :stuck_out_tongue:
Do you not think that it is only natural for a young mind to think that that footage a fighting/action scene…? :expressionless:
… :?
…

Oddly enough, wrestling was one of the few things that I was forbidden to watch when I was young. Never understood why, really.

Yeah… UFC is somewhat true fighting…!
Only… The fights are becoming really quick at present… Unlike the fights from it’s earlier years…
We like the matches where submissions dominate and neither of the contestants wants to tap-out… So the matches last more than 3 or 5 minutes or so…
I remember this one time…where we was ready to view this specific match… Got all the popcorns and snacks and drinks ready… And then it start…
When all of a sudden the other guy was hit clean by a strike kick from his opponent… And then, in an instant, its over…
And I have not even touch my popcorn…
Well, atleast now… Things are somehow getting intense again…!
Except the one where Brock Lesner lost… Must be a disappointment to wrestling fans out there…

UFC is real, but it really sucks now compared to when they had no weight classes. I doubt we will ever see great matches like in the past, at least not in the true sense of comepetition. Like watching a Gracey make a 250+ pounder tap out.
