So how many here watch anime and read manga

But it is only 1/2 season long. It does seem most anime does not get the full 26 episodes for full plot development. Looking on the web for more info on "The World of Narue" ( another short series ) we are getting it for a song and only a year later compared to the R2 DVD's. Now if I only had the money for the long anime's like Fushigi Yugi the Mysterious Play!

I take it The World of Narue is only 13 episdoes long too?

Yeah there is something about Someday’s Dreamers that is very enjoyable and more drama like, as has been already mentioned. I am surprised this did not go the length of 26 episodes, at least by the second DVD it seems like one that is building to more then only 13 shows.

Well, money also delayed me from picking up Fushigi Yuugi for the longest time as well. (Took me several months to get all of the sets without totally murdering my wallet.) A bit unfortunate since that's probably the main thing keeping people from picking up what I thought was a great series.

*sigh* Isn't that how things work out most of the time? Some series are too short, some are just way too long. And suddenly I want to make a Goldilocks reference...

There are some series, like Ranma 1/2 that I am slightly surprised about the DVD collections in pricing. They seem to go up with each collection. I know that has to do with which ones are perhaps most recently released, which ones are newer have more shows etc, but there is a massive difference on some sites I have seen between around 90.00 dollars for the first volume and 120.00 dollars for the third volume.

I understand why they have to be that high in part, and am grateful they are even offered on this market, but until they find a way to sell maybe larger bundles cheaper, it will take a while for any of us to be able to afford such collections, unless someone out there gets about 2,000 dollars for pocket change each week, wouldn’t that be nice?

Yet that price is reasonable since @ $25 a DVD for 8 DVD's is $200. That was how much Sugar cost me. It is spending it all at once that the pain.

It is reasonable you’re right if you look at it in buying them one at a time then using that number and multiplying by total discs in the set. However, whatever happen to the idea of saying it’s 25 per DVD if you buy them one at a time but 15 per DVD if you buy them in a bundle of 8 at a time? Okay that is still 120 which is a lot, but it is also offering people a savings of 80 dollars.

Isn’t there something for buying stuff in bundle? I think that is what I did with the original non signature version of Gate Keepers and I think buying it in the discount offered bundle I saved something like 50 dollars on what I would have paid for them one at a time.

On a different note, does anyone know anything about a manga or anime called (or maybe it is a character from one of those) Maburaho?

Look out people, I’m going off-topic from off-topic! Which would be on-topic.

I’ve watched some anime back when I was little, when a French show would play them. I liked to watch Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon on that. I also saw some Dragon Ball on it, though that was rare.
I still like Dragon Ball Z to this day. I bought manga of it over the years. My collection’s far from incomplete, though. Sailor Moon I might get back into later when I pick up the manga.

Last summer vacation, my brother bought a manga magazine named Manga Spirit while we were on vacation in France. He wanted to improve his drawing. I read it, and then we bought the next issue of it when we saw it. It learned me a lot about the manga world.
That’s when I started to buy manga. I bought a volume of Fruits Basket, Ranma 1/2 and Hunter X Hunter. I now have two volumes of Ranma 1/2 and Hunter X Hunter. I originally intended to buy a volume of each of the three series, but I focused more on Fruits Basket, of which I now have 8 volumes. Fruits Basket is my favorite manga. I will be buying volume 9 when it arrives at my manga shop. The abusive manga shop already has it, but I prefer to buy it in the manga shop I am loyal to. Long story.
My second favourite is Mars. I already knew about this manga when it first came out last summer, but only bought it some months ago. I now have 4 volumes of it.

All of the manga I read is in French, by the way. There’s not much manga in Dutch, and French is my mother language anyway, even though I live in the Dutch area of my country.

Someone mentioned the Fruits Basket anime? From what I could gather, you saw the Japanese version. I was surprised to see you mentioning the end, since the manga is still on-going in Japan. But someone else said it later anyway.

The US is only at the first volume? Wow. o_O And it does have the anime already…
I’m waiting for the anime to be dubbed in French. So far only a subbed version.
Don’t have a DVD player yet, either.

I should add about Maburaho I have only caught a glimpse of some headline that groups
‘her’ with “Magical Hotties Unite!” I mention this if it helps anyone since my last mention was rather vague.

Well, like many other anime based on manga, the anime ended while the manga continued on. After all, it's a bit more expensive and time consuming to continue an anime series compared to continuing a manga series. That and the fact that anime requires more lead time, after awhile if the anime caught up to the manga storylines, there would begin to have gaps in your anime episode release schedule.

Manga in the US has only really recently started booming from the efforts of companies like Tokyopop. Anime started it's boom a few years back. So it's not really surprising that we've gotten a full anime series before getting the related mangas.

AnimeNfo has a summary and many viewer reviews. You have to keep in mind that most of the reviews there pertain to fansubs, so they're not watching the real deal. It's a good place to get a heads up on a new series, though. It sounds like Scrapped Princess will be a good one to watch for this summer.

Regarding the high cost of buying full series - I rely on RightStuf's sales and discounts. Just picked up Fushigi Yugi's two series box sets, the OVA box set and the movie for around $300. Might have cost $400 another time or place.

Maburaho is about this guy who’s a loser because he can only use magic very few times before he dies. In this world everyone can use magic and the more times you can use magic the “better” you are. So he can’t use magic very many times but his lineage has many great sorcerers so his offspring supposedly could be the next greatest magician. So guess what the 3 girls want

Yeah basically like many anime series they ran out of material to continue so what they did with Fruba is that they found a spot in the manga that would be a decent stopping point, did some minor alterations and bam, you have your anime ending I guess if they wanted to they could have made anime only episodes, but usually they aren't quite as well recieved i.e. Kenshin 3rd season. But I think instead they decided to end there and wait for more material to make another season. Which hopefullly will happen since Fruba was very popular when it ran in Japan.

Sounds very promising for a story line and anime. I will look forward to the time it is brought over which might be sooner then later, I hope so anyway.

Well it's not confirmed as we can't get the rep to confirm it, but according to the latest Newtype ADV has liscensed it and will release it in the fall. If this is true then it is probably the fastest turnaround ever for an ADV title as Maburaho is still being aired in Japanese TV right now. This is even fast for a bandai or Geneon release. Again this is just an unconfirmed rumor.

Maybe it is one that they found generated enough interest even floating the rumor out there they think it is good for this quick a turnaround?

Who knows for sure? Besides, ADV’s has probably got their translation processes all fine tuned after all this time. And their success has also probably fostered a better working relationship with the Japanese company. Can’t wait till bishoujo games get to that point…

Er, going to ramble a bit on subjects we’ve touched on previously in the thread. Got my Yoko Ishida signed placard. For some reason I thought it would be smaller. Not that I’m complaining. Slightly smudged, but hey, I can live with that…

Watched Chobits Vol 7. The “Chibits” short was hilarious. (Or I’m just easily amused.) A little odd watching those recap episodes since I couldn’t remember how far the story had progressed up to that point. Not that it mattered, I mean, that’s what a recap episode is for. And I sort of wish the very last one went a little more into what else happened afterwards. Oh well. At least my artbox is now full…

And I’m amused by the quick about face Del Rey did concering Magister Negi Magi (I think that’s the title) artwork. Not that I needed any tittilation of drawn bared breasts, but I do like the idea of the artwork coming over in it’s original format as much as possible. (Or maybe I’m just getting used to those things in manga, AYA’s manga is showing it quite a bit after all… )

Yeah, surprised me too. I thought it was going to be a replacement cover to insert in the Sweets jewelbox, not something shirt cardboard sized. I won't be framing it to hang it on the wall. I guess it will have to go into storage. Just hope they send the CD itself some day.

Well considering how much traffic that one thread on AOD about the edits was getting, Del Rey did the smart thing before it really blew up in their face. It’s nice to know that the fan community can change company policies sometimes

This is really out of place, but I don’t want to start a new thread on it. But has anyone heard of a game called Tenkou or something like that? I can’t remember the name. It’s was some bishoujo game about a schoolgirl and I think the goal of the game was to go an entire school year without getting too slutty, for lack of a better word. There were choices such as letting her get groped while on the train to school or not, masturbate while in class or not. And other such things. It was a windows game, if I remember correctly, because I remember it in a window and not a full screen DOS game. Anyway, I’m not asking where to get it, I just want to make sure of the name and concept of the game, because it’s frying my brain. It’s like the guy you briefly saw on tv but can’t remember his name, but you know you knew his name.

Something silly happened to me last night. I was watching Happy Lesson again. (Don’t ask why.) But in the second episode, when Mitsuki was handing out the tests, I finally caught the joke in the names. The first three names she called were “Ai Ueo-san”, “Kaki Kukeko-san”, and “Sashi Suseso-san”. Anyone knowing basic Japanese ought to catch the joke here. (Say the names out-loud helps.) Once again, my ability to be easily amused shines through…
