Steins;Gate Official Discussion Thread

I got an email an hour or so ago saying that it’s available for download, so it looks like it’s time for another release discussion thread!

Me too. About time now, seriously. Ironic though that I’m complaining about it taking so long and now it’s gonna sit for a while before I even install it anyway.

Hah, I don’t have neither money nor time for S;G right now, even though I was also unhappy with the delays. :stuck_out_tongue:

Has anyone’s physical LE ship yet? :open_mouth:

I hereby dub this the official discussion thread for the newly released Steins;Gate! Please use spoiler tags for content that’s unique to the game. I’ll be roaming and answering questions as they arise.

Only just started tonight.

It’s the real deal. People need to get the word out.

My download code came in a few days ago, but I just received an e-mail notifying me my order would ship within the next 24 hours.

I would say I can’t wait, but I could actually just download the game, so apparently I can wait…
Looking forward to it though. This is only my second game I bought from here, and the first game was a long time ago, but Steins;Gate is pretty special I think, so I went for that LE to support you guys.

Maybe this should get its own thread, but I want to ask… Steam release in the future? Before you mention it, I’m aware this was an Aprils fools joke before. But I assume the major problem for Valve is with hardcore pornographic content, which this particular title doesn’t have (as far as I know). The other problem would be that the general Steam community would not buy this game for the regular price, so it needs to be much cheaper (no more than $ 20,-). It may be worth it, as an experiment, to release this title on Steam, a year from now, for the price I mentioned, to see how well it does.

We’re very interested in getting Steins;Gate on Steam. Work is ongoing with our partners in Japan (Nitro+, 5pb., and MAGES.), to figure out terms by which all the stakeholders get what they want. It’s a financial equation that has to be worth it for all involved and that seems to be the biggest question mark right now – we have a powerful will to see S;G (and other all-ages titles) make it to Steam, so I’m optimistic that we’ll have more news on this front in the not-too-distant future.

Got mine in the mail today. I wasn’t really paying attention so I was surprised to see the esrb rating on the game box. Didn’t even realize you had sent it to the esrb.

Aselia? :open_mouth:

Is there no way to bypass the movie when starting game? Wanted to start over yet have to watch that movie.

Yup, I can confirm the above graphical error. It’s not nearly enough to make things illegible, but it’s certainly noticeable. I’m also using an AMD card. Apart from that, I’ve seen a few spelling/typing mistakes here and there, but I didn’t bother to write down the details (though if they’re appreciated, let me know where I can send a report for these minor issues, I’ll keep an eye out for them).

Enjoying the story so far! My experience and familiarity with visual novels is limited, so at first I was disappointed with the lack of interactivity, but on the other hand, I wasn’t expecting so much story content. And I just had to get used to the game mechanics, wasn’t expecting the interactivity to be done solely through use of the phone. I’m currently on chapter 4.

edit:
I was also able to skip the movie, but I also had some saves available.

I’ll double-check, but I think this is the case (you need to have a saved session later in the game).

This is a known issue affecting some ATI (AMD) graphics cards. We’re looking for a fix, but in the mean time running fullscreen helps mitigate the problem. You can also try forcing antialiasing in your graphics card software preferences for Steins;Gate - if this works for you we’d love to hear about it, we’re in the process of obtaining data points for the fix.

Our head of production monitors the ticket queue at http://support.jlist.com/ , so if you find yourself with a list of typographical errors from the game, submitting a ticket there would be quite helpful for a future potential patch release. If you choose to do so, thanks!

Okay i am in the installation JAST’s version Steins;Gate and I’m a bit concerned. Did JAST not bother to have the English release of Steins;Gate patched to 1.20. This is supposed to fix bugs in the original release. I have the original game as well and version 1.0 is known to crash in multiple places. The version update fixed these errors. How come JAST’s version is only version 1.0?

P.S. Both JAST’s version and the Japanese version are paid and bought for.

I’m assuming that is because they are regarded as separate versions. The new English version is simply set at 1.0, even if it already incorporates any previous patches of the Japanese version, but that’s my guess.

Got the Suzuha ending, now I’m heading for the other endings. My LE will arrive tommorrow I think!

Minor game mechanics spoiler question, highlight to show :

Is there a way to hide the cellphone hint icon that now appears at every possible cellphone message/call point after you finish any possible ending? It’ll come in handy… but right now it just lowers the illusion of having some control over when to attempt a cellphone action.
I haven’t found a way to turn it off in options, unless I’m overlooking something.

I hope the word is getting out about Steins;Gate… These forums don’t have a lot of activity…

Seeing that it’s rated M, it offers Jast a unique opportunity to get word of the game out to places that most of the games they localize aren’t welcome. It could even get reviewed on some better known gaming sites. I haven’t been looking around so I don’t know if it’s happened or not. Regardless, the opportunity is there.

These forums haven’t had a lot of activity in years. The MangaGamer forums are far more active.

Probably a combination of MangaGamer staff being much more active on their forum, and MangaGamer releasing a lot more games in general, so there’s more to talk about.
