the japanese companiese NEVER make the games for us (english market people), their first priority is their local japanese audiences, and so you should think from their perspective
Well, like I said... I think that there is a thing amongst a fair number of Japanese men for large breasts, so I'm sure that's why a lot of the games get made that way in the first place. But not all of the games are made that way...
quote:Originally posted by Lamuness: as for what games are bring brought over, even i dunno how they are decided, but like a few people said, anything with lolis are discouraged because of underage-looking issues; keep in mind the cultural differences, the japanese tend to be more open to these kinda things than people here, many of whom are religious fundamentalists and play a huge and powerful role in society (that includes money), so sometimes even if you want a loli game to be brought over, it's really hard on the company because we have to deal possible consequences
Yes... the Japanese seem to be more open to the idea of younger people and sex. On the other hand, I have seen a couple of loli games and situations sneak their way into the US on occasion. Casual Romance Club, probably because it came directly from Japan, is full of characters who--if you do the math--are of an average age of 16 or 17. I've played a couple of other games where character ages aren't strictly mentioned, but the implications leave one wondering...
But, I'm not actually looking for loli games, just smaller breasts
I’ll have to agree with you there–breast sizes aside, I didn’t like the style of artwork in Jewel Knights - Crusaders, either, and it seems that a lot of recent releases have gone to a highly stylized rendering of people, rather than a more traditional type of artwork. The pictures that I saw from Utawareru Mono were beautifully done, and it would be nice to see artwork of that quality coming across the ocean.
I’m glad that you enjoyed some of the CGs from Utawareru Mono, Wolfson. I wanted to point out that it’s not as if we only get “bottom of the barrel” artwork in the translated games. There are plenty of games that have not been translated that do not have good artwork. Utawareru Mono happens to have beautiful artwork but I do not think that this game will every be translated. First, it’s not voiced, and I think that every translated bishoujo game is voiced. But more than that, the game was created by Leaf. Leaf created the very well know To Heart, and Comic Party. (Although I prefer Utawareru Mono over those two games) Popular game makers don’t want to risk getting bad reviews in the English market for games that sold very well in Japan. There’s not really much to gain. I have an extra copy of Utawareru Mono that you can have. It’s still sealed. It’s kind of a stupid story. You need to have a DVD drive and windows 2000 or XP to run it. I don’t know anyone who would enjoy it, so it’s all yours if you want it Wolfson.
Edit - Utawareru Mono itself is a great story. The stupid story is the reason I have two copies of the game.

Heh… I didn’t mean to imply that we were only getting lousy artwork over here… just that there was lots of good artwork that wasn’t coming over here As far as voicing goes in the translated games, I actually think that it’s only been a relatively recent trend that only voiced games get translated… or else it’s the policy of the companies who are currently translating games to use voiced games–I have games that don’t have voicing in them. However, you’re right in that the Japanese companies are concerned over whether a game that did well over there is going to fly over here–such is not always the case, for some reason. I’ll get with you on Utawareru Mono… stupid story or not, I think that I’d like to have a copy just for the art (and, yes, Eruruu )

Sorry, Wolfson wants it and I offered it to him first. It's not everyday I give away a new Japanese game. (first time ever, really) I wish that I had about 20 of them to hand out but I don't. I guess all you can do is buy it. I only know of himeya shop.

Don't worry! I just couldn't let the "I don't know anyone who would enjoy it" remain unanswered.
Of course, I am going to buy my own copy and I am a regular shopper at himeya. If it weren't for plenty of other games that I still have to play (Air, Kanon and the entire Toraha-series among them), I might have bought it there already.
.. or perhaps still not yet because Comic Party and White Album are higher on my list.

Heh… Yeah… I’m looking forward to upgrading my entire system just so I can play it I’m actually just hoping I can stumble my way through it, given my limited knowledge of Japanese–but I think the artwork is superb, and I’ll be able to say I at least have one actual Japanese title By the way, thanks again Bishounen_blue.

I'm pretty sure he meant "in his immediate environment." In this place, he could probably find several people who would happily take it off his hands

Or take his hands as well if he's not too careful. Offering up a game here is similar to tossing chum into shark-infested waters...
Oh just in case some of you are looking for another retailer of import bishoujo games it seems that anime jungle is starting to sell some games. It’s in yen cost so hopefully it’s cheaper than himeya. http://jungle-scs.co.jp/en/
there are lots of ways to pay for stuff in yen, but it really depends on what the other side can accept
for online website? visa or mastercard if they accept it
if you live in the US, you can send a international postal money order at your post office and it can be cashed in japan. not sure about other countries but canada’s money order cant be cashed in japan to say the least
if the other side uses paypal, you can use that
it really depends on who you are dealing with and what they accept, but US postal money order is usually the safest
