If the restored scenes had mosaics it would put me in a bind, as it would cast doubt on the "officialness" of the patch--which is the premise for much of my argument. I'd have to alter the article, but I'd likely still publish it. It's important to let people know about the censorship and the availability of a restoration patch, regardless of whether the patch meets customer expectations or not.


So yes, the mosaic question is important to me, but likely not for the same reasons it's important to you and others. After all, If I deeply cared about mosaics in pornography, I wouldn't be learning Japanese to play eroge, now would I?

Tired of people acting like refusing to buy a game because of cut content is “Unjustified nerd rage”. Kokoro’s route is a major reason that a lot of people were getting the game in the first place. Why would someone buy a game without the content they want in it? We understand that Jast had their reasons, but this isn’t a simple protest of Jast. Many people are legitimately not interested in a censored product. Stop making this look like a black and white conflict. Also, the route itself being in the game changes nothing. It’s creepier without the sex scenes. No one thinks that the Kokoro story is a genuinely good romance. It is about an older guy taking advantage of a young girl. It is just an excuse plot to see Kokoro sex scenes. The story without the sex scenes is completely worthless. Again, if you really have such faith in Jast, then this arguing is pointless. The patch will be released, the scenes will be added without mosaics, and people like me will buy the game. Until then though, I (like all intelligent people) will remain skeptical until I see the proof myself.

Well, that would be the right thing to do. You would update the article in an appropriate way. As for the mosaics though, it's not just about censorship, its about inequality. I look at hentai with mosaics because it is the best I am going to get of certain artwork. But this is a released with mosaics removed, so if they were not removed from Kokoro's route, it would be completely unfair. It would make the patch feel cheap; especially when the original mosaic scenes can be viewed online. It would als0 contrast the rest of the release. Kokoro fans would basically get unequal treatment.

I’m buying the game because of Setsuna Kiyoura, and Sekai Saionji. My 2 favorite characters from School Days Hq. I do understand the whole argument about the Kokoro Katsura censorship, but to be honest I’m not too terribly disappointed. I find it extremely amusing to read all these “nerd rage” comments. Here’s some advice to everyone, even though it has already been given numerous times. If you are unhappy with the game, don’t buy it, if you are skeptical about a patch release, don’t buy the game until one comes out. Better yet quit your DAMN BITCHING, Jast is doing everything they can to give us the best translated product they can without an international incident involving several countries. One more thing, if your that unhappy with this censorship, get off your asses, go buy an original copy, and translate it yourselves. Nothing more needs to be said. Go start your own translating company, go and try to do a better job, I dare all the whiners to do so. Until then, I’m going to sit here and patiently wait for an amazing game.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying to not be skeptical. †It is just, personally for me, they did such a great job with Little Witch that at least for this one time, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. †I think as a community we are doing more harm than good by attempting to boycott. †But if said patch does come out and it does live up to somewhat decent standards, I hope everyone who is holding out puts a lot of effort to try to provide promotion for JAST and the game.

Though you are right, if a patch is released and Kokoro's scenes have mosaics that would be a disappointment.

I am not speaking ignorantly. Many people on this forum have stated this. Not only that, but Kokoro was one of the few people that didn’t have an H scene in the first game. I’m pretty certain that a lot of people were interested in Shiny Days over the fact that pretty much everyone has an H scene this time. That is one of the game’s two big gimmicks (the other being the fleshed out Setsuna route).

Fans of loli content getting the shaft is nothing new. When do you think we'll see an official English release of Monobeno? Park Toucher Fantasy? We won't, as such content is actively discriminated against.


What would anti-censorship activists have us do? They would demand that companies like JAST not license games with content that they would end up cutting. But where does that get us? We wouldn't get loli content in English either way. For a fan of loli content, neither result is satisfactory.


That's why fans of loli content should support the model JAST has proposed: cutting out content to sidestep legal pressures, and offering a patch to restore this content. It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than the alternative: licenses with no loli content to begin with. And of course, such fans should support MangaGamer as well, which is also pushing boundaries of acceptability without any content removal. Just keep in mind that many of MG's titles are mosaiced, including their most recent loli title Sweet Sweat in Summer.

You're free to wait out the patch before pulling the trigger but I don't see any rational reason in doing so. JAST delivered on its promise with Starless (completely uncut and uncensored release with patch applied) so why would this title be any different. Also keep in mind that JAST releases all its titles without DRM, so if they piss off their most loyal customers by making empty promises they're shooting themselves in the foot; it's in their best interest to keep their customers as satisfied as humanly possible.

The whole point of a restoration patch is to complete the game. Not removing the mosaics on the patch would be cheap, and feel very unprofessional. Why would anyone pay full price for an unprofessional product? The patch is supposed to woo the Kokoro fans into buying the game, but treating them in an inferior way would be more insulting than convincing. The scenes can be watched online with the Mosaics, so it would not make the product special or worthwhile. The only argument in favor of it pretty much amounts to pity. “Jast tried hard enough, so buy a product you are not satisfied with”. Not putting in the effort to remove the mosaics would not even be “trying hard enough”, it would be a sign of laziness. I am not being unreasonable. I (like most people) am not financially stable enough to buy anything. I need to make sure something is worthwhile to shell out money for it.

Personally I prefer mosaics because I don't want to see some niggas dick in my game but I understand mosaic free is what the majority wants so its whatever, im not going to ask for a recensor patch because that's ridiculous.

Considering they kept to their word with Starless and the patch was uncensored, that's the basis of the trust I have with this release and why I pre-ordered with the belief they will come through with the unofficial patch.

Of course if that patch doesn't happen, I would not preorder a title from them again until I know for certain everything is to my liking after the VN is released.

I think holding off is a good idea for those who feel strongly about the removed scenes and are buying mostly for Kokoro, but there has to be some guinea pigs to pre-order in the first place and that's where guys like me come in or you wouldn't even have the option to own it or not.

Just go with Rightstuf if that's the case. The game is $10 cheaper there and most likely won't ship until early October so you have plenty of time to cancel your order if the patch doesn't materialize or contains mosaics. Problem solved.

Couldn't the same be said for the entire game? Why buy an official English release if you can just play the original game in Japanese when it releases several years earlier?


Ask yourself: is mosaic removal the primary reason to buy an official English release? Does that make sense?


It's fine to expect the patch will be handled professionally. But let's not lose sight of the bigger picture here.

Trying to win over some more of the flock to your unholy gospel eh...

Different people place different values on different things. The "bigger picture" depends on one's personal preferences. By the same token as it's impossible to persuade you to buy and enjoy Starless, it's equally impossible for you to convert people, who strongly prefer uncensored art, to your way of thinking. It's not that hard of a concept to understand now is it.

As important as a translation is, a release you have to pay money for should do more than translate the text. If the mosaics are not removed, I feel like I am not getting my money’s worth. I am not going to pay for a cheap product just to support some industry that doesn’t even have to exist. In fact, the VN industry in the west is hurting more than helping in some ways. Fan translations were going strong before the industry came along, and now it has dwindled. Many sites pulled down the downloads to hundreds of fan translations (many of which will probably not get translated officially ever). The only way this industry can outdo the fan translations, and prove its worth, is by being professionals, and removing mosaics. Otherwise, the industry can go to hell for all I care. Things will just return to fansubs if the VN industry dies. Either way its mosaic only, unless the VN industry actually chooses to distinguish itself from the fan translations.

Overflow doesn't make games anymore likely for the very reason that their games didn't sell well enough. I feel sorry for them when self-avowed fans say things like this. When you buy a product from JAST, you're not just paying for a translation. You're paying for the development costs of the original game and future games.


How much money do you think fan translations raise for the Japanese developers? Ask yourself this before implying that fan translations are somehow better than or equivalent to official releases. Until you're willing to fork over $500k to fund development costs for a game out of your own pocket, it's important to keep in mind that business models matter, and fan translations are NOT a sustainable business model to fund eroge development. Comparing official releases to fan translations like this, as if all that mattered was your own experience as an end user, expresses a very narrow-minded perspective--and that's assuming you buy every fan-translated title you play.

I am talking about an exclusively Japanese industry. Fan translations are made for a western audience that would not get the games in the first place. Japanese VNs make their money from the Japanese market. I don’t feel guilty when I pirate something that made its profits elsewhere, and doesn’t get an official release where I am. The only reason an official, western VN, industry needs to exist, is if it can actually give us a higher quality release than what we could get from a simple fan one. I am being reasonable. What is wrong with asking for a little more than a simple translation? If I am paying full price, it is a very reasonable request.

@Carlos hernandez I never said that no one is buying the game for Kokoro's route. Its completely hard to believe that a majority of people who wants to buy the game are lolicons and would buy it just to see kokoro have sex with Makoto.

These are the main things I would think that people would buy the game for and you're telling that out of all these things. A majority of the people buying the game are playing it for Kokoro. Thats just bullshit. I barely see people's reason for buying Shiny days is because of Kokoro and this isn't just exclusive to jastusa forums. So, saying its a majority is just complete ignorance.
