@Dark_Shiki, well, there still people unsatisfied you know? But if my proposal is accepted I wouldn’t see reason to nowhere complaints. There some people who like scat content, but don’t like bestiality content, there also people who like bestiality content and don’t like scat content and there even people who liked the chop part. I don’t see why judge any of them because everyone has the right to like whatever you want. But please everyone it’s very hard maybe impossible in the end, but with my proposal it would the would be the closest from this and I wouldn’t see any reason to someone complaints again.
Well just noticed that according to J-List description, this is what it says (updated by Peter, I think):
"...
Also, customers who preorder the limited edition package version will get the download edition of the game sent free the day the game ships. So preorder now!"
That will suck big time if the download code (I am assuming it will be a code sent to our e-mails) be sent on the day the game is shipped, which will be another 7 days. I hope they provide the download link on the same day the game is released instead of providing it on the day the game is shipped.
@ Murderous Int: I think it said somewhere that we'd get the download code so we dont have to wait to play -- probably means in an email since if it was in the box that would kinda defeat the purpose XD Nice Vid. I think some of his songs are in some Bemani games O.o;
@Kiuoly: I think that choice is more up to the people making the patch, if they want to take the time to break it up, since it is unofficial and JAST isn't making it. Most of the complaints ATM are if there even is a patch or not.
@dogma: doesn't shipped mean released (for preorder people at least)? like.. they put the box on the truck to the post office and then go send an email to you? so if you have a preorder then it should be on the first day that the game is available right?
I’ve waited years for this… Can’t wait
Hey Peter (or anyone else that would know) I wonder if you could help me out with something…
Any chance you could give me a rough idea of how long Starless is, via a word count? I was wondering how many words the script came out to after it was translated.
I’m looking for word count specifically as I am toying with the idea of adapting one of my H-Novels into a visual novel and wanted kind of an idea of where I should be shooting in terms of length.
The word counts on this game is massive, which is one of the reason they say (the JastUSA) why it took so long to release it. They spent most of their time on translation (past 3 years) and to be quite honest with you, I say the word counts could be as much as 20-30 thousands or even more. I am guessing the censor version of the game will contain less dialogues than the original but if they say that the scat and certain others things are the only ones that were tempered with, then majority of the in game texts should still be there. If so, then you are still looking at 15-25 thousands or even more words still intact in the censor version. Bottom line the game is huge and even if you fast forward the text until the end of the game, it will still take you lot of time to finish. And if you decide to read every sentence throughout the game, then you can expect to spend days on it.
Oh that is totally doable. I think the longest porn I’ve written was Dragon’s Eye Gem, and that came out to to a hair under 90,000 words and contains dozens of sex scenes.
Sweet. Thanks for the reply Dogma
I'm a slow writer, and I've written at the rate of 4k words per day. Translation is easier than writing from scratch, so at that rate they could've translated Starless in a couple of weeks if the script is only 20-30k words.
Okay I retract what I wrote above because after making a rough estimation on the previous post, I went ahead and just checked my original game and to tell you I did not take account for all the stuffs that the characters backgrounds were used to describe the story (i.e. while the characters are standing, the dialogues are introduced, and so on and so forth). There are about 3000 in game CGs and each CG has about 5 to 6 paragraphs, containing at least 10-15 words in them, so that’s about 45 words per CG. Within the background characters, story setting, intro, ending, etc.etc., I say this could definitely be more than what I had written above. 45x3000 is about 135K words. Now conversion from one language to another could either add or subtract the word counts, so give or take I say it probably has little bit more than 100K words in it.
Anyway, maybe someone who played through the game just recently can enlighten us on this. When I played it, I felt the game was extremely long. Again if you want to read through each dialogues, you will spend weeks on it. It’s huge! When Sei was interviewed, he mentioned that it is at least 5 times longer than Discipline and Bible Black, so I guess you can estimate the contents of the words from that perspectives, if you have not played this game before.
Well, just few more days and I am sure you will know for sure…
Um... I think Starless is a lot more then 20-30,000 words.
A Lilith game averages out at 7,000-10,000 Lines.At five words per line you get around 35,000-50,000 and that is being modest. They are all short games compared to Starless so I'm guessing would be around the 30-50,000 lines mark. So doing the five word per line math would be at least anything ranging from 150-250,000 words. Though that is a very rough estimate.
Yeah I forgot that most of the dialogues were introduced in the background description, sprites, introduction to a scene, or at the end of the scene, such as before the main character goes to sleep each night, he mentions something about how tired he is (soliloquies?) and so on and so forth, so yeah…they definitely add up to a lot more than I initially thought, as I just took account for the sex scenes only. I think you would be right on the ball park about 150-250K words in total for the entire game.
I’ve played Bible Black and Discipline (among mannnnyyyyyy others) so that does put things into perspective
I honestly don't understand Jast's release schedule. What happened with Hanachira that it couldn't be released with Saya no uta and took twice as long to release?
So this is it then? It’s finally happening!! We have about little bit more than 24hrs until the download version of this game is due to be released (according to JastUSA site, anyway). I still don’t know how the Limited Edition download link will work but whatever the case maybe, it is finally happening. It has been almost 10 years since the announcement of the original game. So many people were disappointed that it faced about countless of postponement and finally was released after 7 years later. After the game was released, some people argued that no one in their sane minds will ever localize this game because of the outrageous contents it has but it seems like it is finally happening. We just shy away of few hours until it is released. Granted it took only 10 years to get to this day but I guess the wait will be finally over. Not only that but it will be a complete experience if we get to enjoy this game 100% of it, meaning everything is uncensored, uncut and translated. Then finally it will be over and it will be an epic game that can be added into our collections!
Count down started…
@dogma
What are you even talking about?
Starless will be censored, you won't be able to experience it to ''100% and uncensored''.
Even the OP said so.
Given the nature of this title, I could understand it though... our society is not ready yet to deal with scat, bestiality and amputation/body part removal.
@animeloverxX93As far as censorship is concerned, there’s an unofficial patch that’s already been completed, which will restore the cut content.That said, I think dogma was primarily referring to the fact that we’ll be getting official uncensored CG’s – that is – sans mosaic. I’m definitely hyped for the release, too! I have the limited edition on preorder, so I’m also wondering how we’ll get our download, too. I mean, hopefully it ships out soon, so we can receive our download as soon as possible.Can’t wait!
@lilithero
Oh, so it's that cheap alternative dogma was referring to.
Doesn't make much sense being hyped about an official release and with cut content and a patch though; importing the original and adding the uncensor patch itself would be the exact same result.
It's not ''official'', if the CG's are being uncensored by an unofficial patch.
As for me, I will pass on Starless; in this case, not even because of censorship (in this case, I can see why it HAD to be done), but because it simply doesn't appeal to me.
I will probably pick up Raidy III and Seinarukana though. :)
@animeloverxX93By official, I meant that the CG’s that will be in the official release will be straight from Sei Shoujo. As you said, though, some of the game content had to be understandably cut. Personally, I’m satisfied with the compromise in the “unoffical” patch. I don’t understand Japanese, but I love Sei Shoujo’s work, so I look forward to playing it, even if I have to use a patch to play it in its complete form. It’s great that you’ve decided not to support this release, but I personally hope that Starless does great numbers. I would love to see more translated work from Sei Shoujo. As they say, we’ll be voting with our wallets.
@lilithero
It's obvious that Starless will contain Sei Shoujo's artwork - it's simply a port of the Japanese release, translated into English.
Unless you are talking about the uncensor patch itself; but assuming this one is done by fans, and not anonymously by a certain publisher (hint hint nudge nudge), I doubt the quality would be the same as if Sei Shoujo would make said patch themselves.
Nothing is''great'' about deciding not to do something; the VN scene is small, so every single purchase matters.
I never said that I don't want to see Starless to succeed; in fact, I'd welcome it.
It seems that more extreme titles are being localized by now.
Despite censorship (yuck), they are atleast being localized - this could mean that lolicon VN's might be localized as well, since it's as much of a taboo in our society as scat, bestality and removal of body parts.
As long as such titles come uncensored though, I wouldn't mind, so I hope to see Starless succeeding as well - for serving my own purpose, that is.
Dear lord, some of the comments in this thread are tough to read without wanting to punch my monitor.
The patch is unofficially distributed, but it features ALL of the content from the japanese release WITHOUT the mosaics. Bascially, what dogma said about the game being 100% uncensored was 100% correct. The patch will most certainly be out day one, as it’s already completed, and should be fairly easy to acquire and install. Jast are putting a lot of effort into making sure any consumers who want the uncensored product can get it, but are still able to ship the product to countries like the UK. This has already been posted in the thread, but since it’s clear some of you have yet to read it, take a closer look:
