So how many here watch anime and read manga

Hmm , Almost the same way Martian Successor Nadesico starts. No cute
witches but some very hot mech babes.
... PS Everybody catch the 'Star Trek' cameo near the end of the series.

None of the cute witches when it starts but a lot soon after the show gets past the prologue I assume? I have actually ordered the show, but now waiting for it to ship, within 8 to 10 business days I believe, or that is what RightStuf is saying anyway at this point in time.

Would you then also recommend Martian Successor Nadesico ?

Long live Star Trek! Let's make sure history never forgets the name, Enterprise.

I don't think we could ever forget the name Enterprise, even if only because NASA can't name anything Enterprise because of the obvious associations of the name; they don't want to have to say that the Enterprise was involved in some disaster ^^. (I dunno how true that is, don't remember where I heard it, but it makes sense to me...)

As for Nadesico - it's a cute show. Avoid the manga, which is - somewhat surprisingly - rather boring. The anime is basically totally different. It takes the general principles behind the manga, but goes off on so many very long [edit: and, I should emphasise, funny] tangents that it's almost unrecognizable. Unusually, this is a GOOD thing. The filler is the best part of Nadesico, which is a rare thing.

Well NASA did actually name the first ever Space Shuttle Enterprise, the one they rolled out to show the world what a Space Shuttle looked like or so I read at one time. They even played the theme song from the original Star Trek as they rolled it out, but since then NASA has kind of gone downhill which could be why they don’t want to name anything else Enterprise.

I will be wary of the manga then and look for the anime first, thanks for the information about which is better of the two.

Just for historical information, NASA'sEnterprise was only a mockup used for testing. It 'flew' piggyback on a 747 a half dozen times in the '70s, but was never fitted for space flight. It was retired by NASA in 1985 and given to the Smithsonian for permanent exhibition. And yes, its name was chosen because of a write-in campaign by Star Trek fans. Some people felt the name should have been reserved for the first space-going shuttle. They may have changed their minds after that ship, the Columbia, was lost. The other shuttle disaster involved the Challenger.

Yup that is what I was thinking of, so it was only a mock up of the space shuttle, ah okay.

Lets get back to anime here.
(Mind you I think the Japanese Anime people could do better at desiging a new shuttle than NASA could ). Wings of Honneamise comes to mind.

PS. Don't hate me for finding new ANIME,
but this is a interesting space anime.

AS for NADESICO events in the First episode don't get resolved till the very end of the series so pay attention.

I think almost anyone can be better at running NASA then NASA has been recently.

Is there any upcoming anime that is known about, anything that is to be released this year that is worth looking for?

Comic Party comes to mind as something new. I still have lots of the older titles to collect and a hi-fi to build

Comic party is good so is Kiddy Grade. My mind is still in mush after my vacation so maybe after I relax at work for a week or so I’ll come back with a list of anime comming out this year worth looking into

Hmm, can’t really think of many upcomming releases this year. Mostly series that have already started their runs. Can’t wait to grab the next volume of Pretear and Angelic Layer this week. Not to mention volume 2 of I’m Gonna Be An Angel next week. I mean, it’s only been what, almost 2 years since the first volume came out?!?

Er, nevermind. Oh, watched volume 6 of Chobits last night. I like how they wrapped it up. Definitely read the manga and watch the anime. I think the anime ending had more emotional impact while the manga ending went a bit more into the details of everything. (Besides, who can get enough of Chi? )

*** Grumble *** I am still waiting for that all to still ship.
Btw have you seen Sugar: a little snow fairy?
Has anybody any comments on the Martian Successor Nadescio movie?

Personally no. But then again, I live in Hawaii, what would a Snow Fairy be doing here? Waffo! (Did pick up the artbook recently, havn't had time to go through it yet...)

If you're like me, you should re-watch the series just before seeing the movie. It took me awhile to remember who was who. And I kept feeling parts were left out. Quite a few questions left unanswered. Overall, best for those who really liked the series, it doesn't do well as a stand-alone movie. And I can see some gripes either way but I enjoyed it.

Here here, I personally cannot get enough of Chi, she is so cute. How did you get the 6th Chobits DVD already? I was told it is not released until the 13th of next week or is that just what Rightstuf is saying? Also do you think the ending is more emotional because we can see while hearing the voices or because of whatever changes might have been made without giving them away?

Is I'm Gonna Be An Angel or Sugar: a little snow fairy worth a try you think for someone that likes Chobits?

Well since we are missing some pieces to the story, namely the DC game and I believe a PS game along with a novel?, the movie does feel like lots of stuff was not explained and things are left unanswered, since they assumed people have played the games and read the novels. We had a prety long discussion about this in another forum, and a kind person filled us in on the stuff leading into the movies and pieces not covered in the movie. Knowing the things that happened before the movie really made the movie soooo much better. And explains Akito's personality change and badassness in the movie where he was a whiny character in the tv series. Very brutal stuff they did to akito.

That said unless you have access to this info the movie will seem kinda wierd with Akito's personality switch, and not much explanation to what's going on and what the motives are.

I was able to get the DVD already because certain places will make the DVD available once it comes in, which is usually before the release date. The offical release date is still the 13th. Normally, I'd wait for the offical date and then check but some series I just have to have as soon as possible.

Hmm, not sure how well I can answer your other question without giving away spoilers. To me it was a combination of the changes they did as well as having the added inputs of the voices and music available. Maybe I'm just easily manipulated. We'll see what others say after they've seen it.

Is I'm Gonna Be An Angel or Sugar: a little snow fairy worth a try you think for someone that likes Chobits?

Er, well Sugar is a children's anime. (If you're ever in doubt, you just have to compare the previews included in Sugar to the ones in other titles.) So it doesn't have the, er, sensual components Chobits has. But several of us here watch it, and we're not exactly the target audience, so that's a recommendation right there. And I'll be darned if Sugar and her antics ain't cute...

I'm Gonna Be An Angel is a little harder for me to pin down. I mean, I totally enjoy and am intrigued by it, but I don't know why. (Plus, the opening song keeps getting stuck in my head.) I've even seen more of the show then most others because I watched the VHS versions first (They had two tapes with 3 episodes each, but only one DVD with 5 episodes on it.) and I'm still at a loss to how to talk about it. Maybe after the next DVD comes out, then I can give it a firm recommendation or not.

I really like how they put all the recap episodes in the last dvd along with the extra short and pricing it cheaper than their regular dvds. Gives people who don't want all those recaps an option to get it or not.

Waffo!

You can sort of compare Sugar to Risky Safety, another child’s anime, but I highly doubt you’ve watched that one either. Either way, there’s enough depth to it for an older audience to enjoy, moreso with Sugar.

Personally I am just happy that they are selling it for less and not trying to make just a little extra profit and charging the same amount as the other DVD's for those that want the recap episodes and the extra short.

Any sites names you can recommend that would fit this mold?
