So how many here watch anime and read manga

Does anyone know a good site to find, perhaps hard to find, anime and game soundtracks? I am actually looking for soundtracks, from games like Crescendo and I know it might not even exist but does anyone know either if it does (or for similar games) or a good place to look?

I know Kana has a seperate soundtrack out but is that not the norm because there are a lot of great songs with some of these games. I know they have their own music box on the game but that is not really the same thing.

It wasn't pencil boards in Rune Soldier, more postcard type things like wanfu2k1-san mentions. ADV does their extras differently than Geneon. Hmm, forgot to look in my Chobits DVD's, I do remember a few pencilboards but I left them where I found them...

Anime Jungle also has a selection of soundtracks, used stuff mostly. But they and CDJapan are pretty much the places I get the majority of my soundtracks.

Hmmm... I would advise against that, only becuase, the GPM OST is a pre-order, and RightStuf even mentioned in their newsletter that the autographs would probably be sold out by the time that starts shipping (the autographed placards are first come, first serve).

You could always re-sell or exchange the CD you order... just don't open it.

That's all I can think of.

Actually I believe that the autograph is a separate item that when you order is added to your list so as long as the autograph items is listed in your order you will get one. It first come first serve for orders not delievry of the item I think as of this morning Shawne CEO of TSRI said they still had a few autographs. So you might be lucky or you can all there CS and ask. They usually pretty helpful with this kinda question.

Yeah Pioneer/Geneon is the only company that I’ve had problems with their LE goodies. The other companies usually make enough so that if you get it withn a month or so you still get it or you pay more for the LE but are gauranteed to get it.

I have recently tried there and have found nothing that matches. I have tried searching Game Music as the artist, searching by the main song title Spring Breeze, searching by some of the other song titles, and even the game title itself and have gotten a lot of results but none that match unfortunately.

Could it have be under something different or was it named something different in Romanized Japanese that it might be showing up here that I would never guess it would be called?

Not sure if the story is as good as Love Hina but it seems TOKYOPOP is releasing Ken Akamatsu’s first series A.I. Love You in English, starting sometime this month. Sounds like it might be interesting to pick up.

From what I've read of it so far, I think it's pretty good. Of course this is off my bad translation skills, so I wouldn't put much stock in my opinion on the story...

And yes, I caved in and put a Right Stuf order in. It listed the autograph as part of the order, so hopefully I will get one. We'll just have to see. (Still waiting for my other order though...)

One of the autographed CD’s?

I am sort of surprised they have not brough this manga out earlier and to be honest it seems to be released with little fanfare. If I had not stumbled across the information in Newtype I would not know it was being released. Sort of surprises me, I thought they would have brought it over with more information playing off the fact it is by the author of 2002’s Best Manga USA Release Award by Anime Expo.

I wanted to make sure the Sweets CD was hand-autographed, so I asked the RightStuf helpdesk and they replied

quote:

The Yoko Ishida CD is hand signed with a black sharpie.

We only have a limited number left.

I was hoping they might send another weekly special coupon I could use, but so far none. Oh, and they changed the offer to include any of 3 CDs.
quote:

*** A Sweet Yoko Ishida Promotion! ***
Here is another wonderful promotion you all are sure to love - Pioneer/Geneon has
been so kind to provide us with a little over 150 printed cards personally SIGNED
by Yoko Ishida!

Are you interested? If so, just purchase any of the CDs that are listed below:

Ai Yori Aoshi: Sakura CD Soundtrack

Gunparade March CD Soundtrack

Yoko Ishida: Sweets CD

That’s OK, I guess, but the autograph specifically refers to the Sweets CD.

I’m still waiting for my copy of A.I. to arrive , but from what I gather it’s like a mix of OMG and video girl AI so it should be pretty good. I also heard that the designs are a little rough as it’s Akamatsu’s first manga. His newest manga is going to be released here shortly too.

Any idea what the title of his newest one is going to be?

Should be fun collecting two series at once. I have heard A.I. Love You has a touch of the John Hughes Weird Science at the same time. I have seen some of the art work, and it is hard to describe, it seems a little more artsy and in some aspects more developed then the early Love Hina and yet clearly before some of the later Love Hina artwork, as I said hard to describe but not as simplistic as some people have mentioned in reviews I have read.

On this note, has A.I. Love You also been turned into an anime like Love Hina?

[This message has been edited by SCDawg (edited 02-05-2004).]

I don’t believe it has been turned into an anime yet. But like any artist, Akamatsu was still developing his “style” over the course of the series, which is why there’s some variance. They actually talk about it a bit in the manga and as to what some of his likes are and some of the design choices of his characters.

Read the Fruits Basket manga last night. That’s a show I want to sit down and do a marathon run one of these days. I’m glad Tokyopop brought it over. I was getting tired of trying to track down copies of the Japanese version…

How is Fruits Basket I have heard almost opposite reviews based on the subject matter or part of the subject matter.

Does Ken Akamatsu’s newest work have a title in the U.S. or are they not changing it?

I just finished volume 1 and it's OK, but it doesn't really suit my taste for romantic comedy. It's intended mainly for a female audience, so there are more 'pretty boys' than beautiful girls, and the lead male character is very effeminate in voice and appearance - which I guess is a trademark of bishounen anime. The heroine is a waiflike high school girl living in a country house with three guys. The romantic possibilities are greatly limited by the fact that the guys turn into various animals whenever they are hugged by any girl. This kind of plot device makes it very difficult for characters to have normal interactions (unlike Ranma 1/2, for example). I'm also not very clear on the goal here. Members of the Sohma family don't seem to want to rid themselves of this curse, but to 'attain their rightful place in the zodiac' or whatever.

I still have three volumes to go and at six episodes per DVD, that's a lot of story, but after watching some truly excellent series like MI, AYA and KOR, I'm finding Fruits Basket well, kind of fruity.

[This message has been edited by perigee (edited 02-06-2004).]

I enjoy Fruits Basket immensely. But I’m comming at it at a slightly different angle. I don’t look at it as a romantic comedy at all. (Hey, it’s my own take, I’m allowed to be disagreeable.) For me, because there’s no real discovering or pursuit of romantic love, it’s not a romance at all. I want to call it a dramatic comedy, but I always thought that term sounded silly.

The story is more about finding one’s place in the world. About finding people who accept you for who you are, as well as learning to accept yourself. For the most part, it isn’t about getting rid of their curse because most of them have accepted that the curse is part of who they are.

There’s only one member who’s trying to “attain their place in the zodiac”, because his curse animal is the cat. (I’ll look for a link later, but hopefully most people know the story about the zodiac animals and how the cat fits in.) He’s an “outsider among outsiders”, and again it comes down to finding people who will accept you. He thinks that he needs to become one of the zodiac to be accepted.

I’ll admit I’m having a little trouble with the manga though. The same problem I had with Ai Yori Aoshi. I’ve seen the anime first, and I like those characters designs better than the manga ones. Sigh I guess I should just be happy that I have the chance to see both the manga and the anime now, wasn’t that long ago where that wasn’t possible. (Although I wish I’d stop picking up Tokyopop manga series that sort of “stop” while we wait for the next volume for whatever reason…)

What do you mean by that?

I am just glad they are bringing as many over as they are, whoever 'they' might be in each given case. It is nice to see so much finally coming over and such a wide variety of choices in both manga and anime starting to appear.

Samurai Girl - Real Bout High School is a good example. Volume 5 came out in Feburary of last year. I'm still waiting for Volume 6. Gatekeepers is another, volume 2 came out in May, and they don't have any volumes listed after that even on their website but at the end of volume 2 they have a page talking about volume 3. It's like starting to read a great book and then finding out the last couple of chapters are missing. I'm not exactly a patient person at time...

Now that you mention it I had forgotten about Gate Keepers but that is true there are two volumes with a promise of at least one more but there are no more, I thought they just choice not to publish them?

Do you think then they eventually will publish more volumes? I liked the anime and I like the two manga that I have read. Is Real About High School good in manga form?

Well with RBHS vol 6 is the last vol and it’s going to be 300 pages long. Really not sure why it took so long but I believe in japan vol 6 was released in sept so it isn’t an incredible amount of time from the japanese release to the US release. Not sure about Gatekeepers, but a few of the TP series are actually caught up with the japanese release so they will be slow to come out until the japanese release them.
