So how many here watch anime and read manga

Does Ken Akamatsu's newest work have a title in the U.S. or are they not changing it?

Well the working title is Mahou Sensei Negima which is the japanese title. Haven't heard anything from Del Rey saying they are changing the title so it's all good for now. The guy who's working on it posts in AOD so we been getting some updates from him. Everything is looking good

Well you can put me in the camp that loves Fruits basket. Really not much romance in the beginning of the series, but from what I hear in the Fruits basket mailing list, the later chapters has more romance and it looks like the triangle is resolving itself. There's some really touching stories and the lives of most of the junishi is more hardship than anything else. I think FB is more about self discovery and acceptance than romance. Very good read if you like that kind of stuff.

Really not sure why it took so long but I believe in japan vol 6 was released in sept so it isn't an incredible amount of time from the japanese release to the US release. Not sure about Gatekeepers, but a few of the TP series are actually caught up with the japanese release so they will be slow to come out until the japanese release them.

I take it Gate Keepers is one of those that is only up to volume 2 in Japan as well then? That is strange such a long gap in between releases.

That is cool, thanks for the title, so this is not Tokyopop releasing this one as they did his other series? Also AOD?

I figured as much but it's still driving me up the wall. If I had known there would be the long pause before the last volume, I would have held off on the series. Instead, I'm just sitting around waiting for "what happens next" for over a year! (Could be worst, I could start picking up the Japanese versions and puzzling through those like I did with AMG!)

AOD is AnimeOnDVD. Or at least I think it is in this case. That's another place I really need to try and get into the flow of the Message boards...

I have only seen the first of the anime in RBHS, I take it the manga is the better of the two forms?

Yes, by far. I would recommend you check out the manga, but the anime is largely a waste of time. There's a discussion about it on AOD here

As for Gatekeepers, I believe we are caught up with the manga release. Considering how much work Keijo Gotoh is doing in anime, it's not surprising he doesn't have a lot of time to work on the manga... it's been released straight to tankoubon every other year in japan, but I have yet to hear news about a volume 3 yet.

Is something wrong with this site? I have tried to sign up and all they do is promise to send me a temporary password, I have yet to get one. Anyone else have this trouble?

Speaking of trouble I am having massive problems reaching the people at DiscountAnimeDVD in regards to an order, is there a trick to it? Their click here to contact us, button does nothing (I have not even gotten an automated reply yet) and it has been about two weeks. Is there a trick to getting in tuch with them, even directly contacting them via e-mail I have heard nothing but is there a way anyone can recommend?

Has anyone heard good about the show, Figure 17? AOD gave it an A- consistantly thus far, but I really don’t know much about it. My friend, the anime freak, who has nearly every non-mainstream anime known to man, never even heard of it, that bastard. How dare he not hear of an anime that I have interest in.

And AOD’s been in the process of switch servers, so that may be the cause of your password delay. I, personally, have never joined AOD, for some reason or another which even I don’t know. I visit their site all the time too…

Thanks for update that is a little reassuring at least, is DiscountAnimeDVD in the same process? I am getting antsy considering what I paid that it is going on three weeks and I have heard nothing from them and cannot contact them through their automated system or e-mail, is there an e-mail address other then the info@… one to reach them?

Heh, I agree with Faust-san. The RBHS manga was much better than the anime. The only reason I had gotten the anime was because I enjoyed the manga. (Okay, and because I like the op and end songs.) Sigh, maybe I should try and dig up a copy of the Japanese volume 6…

Hmm, Figure 17. Heard a few things about it here and there. mostly good, but I havn’t watched it myself, yet. I’ve just started into Sakura Wars, Full Metal Panic and Someday’s Dreamers, I don’t think I can afford picking up another series…

Heh you just picked a bad time to sign up to AOD they just switched servers and they kinda forgot to close the forums when the did the switch so there were a lot of lost posts. You might want to try and resign up as they might have lost your previous registration. For manga discussions the AOD manga forum I found is the best on the web with a lot of studio representatives that post there. And a bunch of fanatical manga otaku who scour the net to post new manga liscenses. It's funny what people can find typing manga titles on TP's website

I got the DVD, but with the backlog I doubt I'll be able to watch it anytime soon. But from what I hear it's a good anime. Each ep suppose to be like 45-50 mins long. If I remember correctly it was a hour long show that came on once a month or something like that.

:sniffs: This is a bit off track, but I just finished watching the last Sugar DVD. It’s just so touching! I just had to write something. Waffo…

Speaking of finishing a series, I just watched the last episode of Fruits Basket.

I know I’m in the minority here, but I have to say again I thought it was an interesting premise and technically well done. but I felt let down. The story revolves around this dysfunctional family with a mysterious curse who manage to learn some basic coping skills with the help of a young girl who somehow finds the inner strength to deal with her own loss.

Tohru was the only character I had any sympathy toward throughout the series. Everyone else seemed either abusive, suffering from extreme egotism or a gender identity problem. I felt sorry that Tohru got stuck with Yuki without any chance of a normal relationship developing from it.

There was no romantic love, no triumph of good over evil, and no real sense of relief. The plot twist involving Kyo was surprising and well written, but it still left me wondering where he went from there. I suppose we are supposed to regard the Sohma characters metaphorically as individuals struggling to overcome life’s difficulties, but I guess I’m just a sucker for a happy ending.

The thing I enjoyed most was the Fruits Basket Room extra feature hosted by the seiyu who played Tohru. She was so cute and energetic, I fell in love with her. I could have watched another hour of her performance on screen. All in all, I’ll admit it is a worthwhile series, but while I anxiously await the sequel to AYA, I was glad to see FB reach its conclusion.

I hate you! I still havn't been able to get my hands on the last volume yet...

The seiyuu for Tohru was Horie Yui. Among other roles she's done are Naru Narusegawa (Love Hina) and Multi (To Heart). It was sort of funny, first time I watched Fruits Basket, I was thinking the voice sounded familiar. It's probably a bad sign when you can start recognizing voices like that...

I remember the first seiyuu voice I recognized was when I was watching Sugar and realized that Pepper and Taeko from Ai Yori Aoshi were the same person. And then I started noticing a few more. The last one I connected was Miranda from Someday’s Dreamers to Miyabi from Ai Yori Aoshi. I can’t help it. I loved AYA. But I tell you, it just seemed really creepy when I noticed the Pepper/Taeko connection. That’s when I decided, that I was watching too much anime. Though, I haven’t done anything about it.

Actually I don’t think Honda is stuck with Yuki. In the anime I don’t think Honda really picks any of the sohmas and both Yuki and Kyo has their moments to shine with Torhu. Of course it is that way because the manga hasn’t ended so they decided to kinda find a nice ending spot to end the anime. You need to read the manga to find out what happens after the anime. And based on the latest chapters the love triangle seems to be breaking down

Speaking of which the first vol Fruits Baskets manga just got released here in the states. TP did a pretty good job with it.

I've been doing it for ... god, years by now.

Yeah I have been doing it for a while now too, picking up the voices and making connections. Funny thing is the more I try not to do it the more it seems to just happen, or is that normal?
