So how many here watch anime and read manga

Well a long long time ago they did sell their items at their website. I’m pretty sure I bought some stuff from them way back. I haven’t been to ADV’s main site in a long time now. I usually find news about their company faster from other sources

And it looks like ADV’s releasing Evangelion renewal discs later in the year. They gonna give more details about these discs at sakura con. If you don’t know what renewal is it’s the remastered eva, with the DC episodes.

For those that are fans of the Tenchi Muyo OVA, as I am, I have just heard there is a new OVA being released OVA 3 and at least 3 shows from that OVA have already been shown in Japan. It picks up where the last OVA show ended is my understanding from what I have heard so far, exciting news from my perspective as a fan.

Except that the new OVAs are quite bad. At least, the first episode was terrible. I was starting to wonder if it was just me (having a bad day or some such), but then they started with the extended flashbacks that were still funny. I conclude it's just that the new OVAs suck ^___^.

Oh my…

Recently watched Puni Puni Poemy. And personally, I think except for the aliens, I thought the last episode of Excel Saga was much worst. And I’m hoping I’m only saying that because of the medicine…

Yeah the 3rd eps of the new tenchi ova was just released probably about a month ago. Supposedly they were finally going have tenchi pick one of the girls. I’ll believe it when I see it. From some of the things I read Tenchi might be getting another fiancee in this series.

I never like flashback episodes that overdo the flashbacks, but then again it has been a few years since the last OVA, from what I am hearing the others are actually pretty good or at least interesting plotwise.

Yeah, everybody talks about the last Excel Saga episode. What is it that makes it so standout-ish? Is it bad, horrifying, sad, totally jacked up? I need to know.

Hmm, trying to think of a way to go into this without spoiling much. But since the last episode wasn't going to air on television, so they sort of increased the insanity a bit. Lots more sexual overtones, implied nudity (they sure worked the mosaics where they could), stuff like that. (It's been awhile since I actually watched the episode, but that's the items standing out in my mind the most.)

Puni Puni Poemy is also along those lines but my mind was usually going "that's funny" instead of the "that's so wrong" as it was during the last Excel Saga I think it was partly because they were making fun of the stereotypes found in bishoujo games and anime (and they do a dig at the games themselves), that I thought it was funny. But the aliens and their, er, weapons, that was definitely wrong...

Speaking of ADV releases, I just finished the last episode of Sakura Diaries. It’s a well done series with good animation and character development, although it employs the cliche indecisive male who falls for the wrong girl story line. As those who’ve seen the anime know, the resolution isn’t complete. We’re left without knowing whether Touma gets Urara or Meiko in the end. Supposedly, this was because the manga was still running when the series finished, and there weren’t any more OVAs. Does anyone know how it played out? [spoilers OK, since I won’t be reading the manga]

Yeah sucks there was only the OVAs. Ok from what I found out about the manga:
SPOILERS***********
In the end Touma and Urara get married. After alot of things that happen to them both. Supposedly there was alot of mature matters that was covered in the manga including rape, preganacy, ect... But Touma in the end realizes who he really loved and it was Urara.
Personally I'd kick touma's indecive ass, for all the anguish Urara had to go through. Urara pretty much maintains her faithfullness to him while he was acting like a dog in heat.

Damn I ended up in a rant about Touma, sorry bout that...

I’ve just watched the Sugar Summer Special. And it was very nice to revisit the show, The end end was a nice touching moment. Made me think about the series ending, which was even more touching. :sniffle: But to see Sugar running around again was just what I needed. Waffo!

Well I better add that to my 'to get' list.
That is in two weeks or so when I re-order more anime unless I order 'jewel knights' instead.

I can’t resist the Suger Summer Special release either, but I think I’ll skip the limited edition. $5 for two sample size bottles of shampoo seems a bit much. Now if they included a magic fairy seed… Another series I’d recommend to all fans of shounen anime is Pretear. Good character development, surprising plot twists and a satisfying ending. Now that the last volume is out, what are you waiting for?

I don't know. For some reason, Pretear reminds me of Sailor Moon in a fantasy setting. Which is not to say Sailor Moon's bad, I used to watch it all the time when UPN had it on. Stopped watching after they stopped the series right before they introduced the other Sailor Scouts, because of the lesbian theme. But now I don't watch any Americanized anime. And Pretear reminds me too much of one.

Sailor Moon in a fantasy setting? Not really since the majority of the activity is in modern day Japan. But other than the fact that they’re more or less “magical girl” shows, I didn’t find them particularly similar. (Although knowing that Pretear is based off “Snow White” made certain things predictable at times…)

And I’m insanely jealous that you’ve seen the Sugar Summer Special already. Hope I can find a copy over the weekend…

What is DVD9 format? I have stumbled across that a lot in the past two days but strangely never before that time.

A DVD9 is a 9GB-DVD, which involves burning it in multiple layers (opposed to DVD5 or less, which are only single-layer).

Yeah that’s just a dual layer dvd, not to be confused with the dual sided. Like Unicorn said it’s 9gb disc but realistically it’s more like 8.7 or so gb. The one bad thing about dual layer discs is if you have a dvd player that sucks at reading layers or if the people who encoded the DVD don’t keep the layer changes in mind when encoding there can be HUGE pauses in the dvd when you watch it because of the player changing layers.

Dual sided dvds are one that have data encoded on both sides of the disc and you have to flip the disc to read. Obviously with these you can’t have silk screening or those pretty pictures you see on the dvd themselves. I have a few of those dual sided dvds mostly from nutech which they use the other side to put their trailers and stuff.

Cool thanks for the replies. It makes sense and is something to keep in mind, the pause issue, if I find it to be the case on my player, might take a risk on an inexpensive DVD just to check. Thank you again.

I am amazed, I just saw my first ad for manga on television. Okay it was 12:30 am on the east coast of the U.S. during Cartoon Network’s Toonami but still it’s more then I have seen before in terms of manga advertisements, and it was for Tokyopop specifically. Three titles they advertised and Sergeant Frog, Psychic Academy and one I am blanking on at the moment.

Anyway I thought it was cool that this actually is now advertised on more or less mainstream television. Has anyone else seen these or other ads before? This is a first for me and I am still strangely excited.
