Was I right about the overlays?
Also does anyone know if they are replacing all the kanji with English when they show the computer screen read out or something or just replacing the overlays that did exist?

Er, which part? About what they overlayed? I believe so, it's sort of been awhile. It was mostly the items on the computer screens and such. Pretty much anything within the image itself that needed a translation to it.
Well from what the studio rep said. All the overlays were removed for soft subs. So the signs and computer messages will now be soft subbed. Course I could have been misreading his posts in AOD. I’m still debating if I should double dip for this.
For those of you interested in the dective conan manga. It seems Viz is selling out and will be using the english names and locations for the manga. The people in AOD manga forum don’t look too happy about it. There’s a huge thread about it here:

I am confused about what they mean by "English Locations". Do they mean names of buildings that don't exist in real life? Such as say "Honda Plaza" becomes "Ford Park", or do they mean real places and names changed? Reading over the thread they mentioned one location which is a real place but not what the true name should be, which is why my interest was raised.
Something else they brought up here that leaves me wondering, what changes did they make to Negima?

As far as I know nothing was changed in Negima. I have the 1st vol and all the panels seems to be intact. I don’t like some of the dialog/jokes but it’s tolerable.
All I know was what the Rep posted and what people have been saying about conan. I’m not sure how many things have changed but if they are truely trying to keep it consistent with the CN anime then there probably be a bunch of name changes and stuff like that.
Anybody going to AX this weekend? Just curious because I’ll be there Saturday. I’ll be spending the majority of my time around G-Collection’s booth. After I check out Yoko Ishida’s concert, of course. I don’t listen to J-pop and whatnot, but I like her Sugar and Ai Yori songs.

I like most of her songs that I heard so far. Of course having it associated to an anime I enjoy does make it that much better…

I was really suprised at this... it's a move that seems soooo five years ago. I mean, they kept all the original names for their various Shonen Jump manga that have [established] different anime names. Kind of sad.

Kind of a trademark violation. If they couldn't get away with using the name Conan in the TV anime, they probably couldn't in the manga.
As long as they just change the names ... well, I mean, it isn't terribly great, but really. It's a trademarked name, they have to get rid of it. As long as they don't go mucking in the storyline who cares?
They changed more than just Conan though, didn’t they? Also, does the trademark extend to the characters? I mean, as a title, I could see how it would have to be changed, but does that mean that you can’t have any character named Conan in a story?
That’s the interesting thing the character is still named Conan Edogawa, perhaps the only name left in the show and manga that is at least partly Japanese. The rest have obviously been “Westernized”. Yet if they can leave the main character as Conan, which more people know the show by anyway, what’s up with only forcing a title change and not forcing say Conan to become Arthur or Doyle Edogawa sticking with the idea of where he got Conan from but using the first or last name instead of middle name?
Also has the real reason they had to change the title for the show and manga ever been given? Other then the fact they thought maybe people are dumb enough to easily confuse a Japanese anime about a kid detective with a late night talk show or live action movie from the 1970’s or 1980’s?
Also why change the names in the manga too? Consistency maybe, but there have been manga before where the names don’t always match those in the anime, Happy Lesson comes to mind as one example.

Ooooh, lucky! I'm still waiting for mine to ship.
Is each volume coming with at least one of those character figurines this time?

Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi DVD 1 (Hyb): Fate + Artbox + Figure $35.98

Yes but as near as I can tell that is three figures total of five between those two discs. Are there special ones for each disc then, if that is known?
You asked.

Then you asked are there special ones for each disc? Since there are probably five discs in the box set, one figure come with the first disc and two figures come with the second, it seems reasonable to expect that the remaining figures will be available with the remaining DVDs. Is there any reason to suspect otherwise?
