So how many here watch anime and read manga

I will agree with you if by any chance you are referring to Spain's Spanish rather than Latin America Spanish . I couldn't stand certain (Spain's) Spanish dubs either. Kiki's Delivery Service comes into my mind right away (it sounds way too... Spaniard...). To make an analogy, imagine CCS cast with a British accent!

In my experience, (LAC) Spanish dubs are a lot better than US English dubs.

Oh, I've heard some Spanish dubs before; a few DVDs threw them into the US release as a 'well, we've got the space, we've got the dub' kind of a thing. I listened to it for awhile on a lark.

It's actually not bad. No, scratch that - it was actually pretty good. But I was watching Saber Marionette J, one of Megumi's classic roles.

So I'm willing to grant the dub could be excellent - but I still crack up imagining what it would sound like, because I've heard the original Japanese and I can just see someone trying to speak Spanish and still recognizably be the characters. It's kind of like how the English show that used to be CCS has valley-girl characters that are wildly out of place.

...dang it, now I'm interested in seeing some of this dub.

I'm okay with the original concept of fansubs, not with the way some people use it as another means of making money off pirated material.

Sigh, 20 volumes or so? May be awhile till I get into CCS then. (Or who knows, maybe that job I'm applying for would give me a major bonus... ) I'm still trying to replace some of my old tapes with DVDs as it is...

Kakyuusei Music Graffiti. Released by PinPai in VHS and LD but never in DVD.

Battle of the Bionoids (the hacked version of Macross: Ai Oboeteimasuka). I don't know if somebody still have this license in the US.

Just because I’m trying to avoid work, am I once again posting here…

Last week was a very happy week. I got Angelic Layer #1, Sugar #4 and Ai Yori Aoshi #5. Although just getting the confirmation that they plan on bringing the second season of Ai Yori Aoshi over would make me giggly. Now if only some of the other titles I’ve ordered recently would come in…

So you are the one to BLAME , for
taking MY anime and having me wait
for a re-order!
My Angelic Layer #1, Sugar #4 just got shipped this Monday. My Sugar #3 just
arrived yesterday too. Soon it will be time
to order more Chobbits and Angelic Layer #2.
They are the popular anime this year.

PS. I read anime and watch manga. See footnotes.

1) I read the english subtitles
2) I watch with the semi-nude girls in the manga.

Heh yup yup I actually liked how they put that blurb in the insert instead of announcing the aquisition at a con. Can't belive they are going to bring Season 2 of AYA out in early 2004. They just started airing in Japan
Since we are talking about what we just recieved. let's see what if I remember what I got yesterday.

Yu Yu hakusho 17
Divine Luv
Dragon knight 2
and a buncha older anime like tenchi ovas(the coins they included in the dvds had a nice touch) and MKR ovas. Hopefully I'll be getting moonlight lady shortly as I just got shipping confrimation yesterday

Dvine Luv is great. One of my better purchases. It’s a bittersweet ending though, I’m not a depressing ending type of person. Although this is not like a Neon Genesis type of ending, there’s still an upside to it. Not going into it too much, in case you haven’t watched it yet.

Hey, don't blame me. I had to go to 8 different stores and drive around a good part of the island before getting all three. (But I feel it was worth it... )

That is good thing you could get it localy,
I have to mail order my stuff.

Well, they’re not always around locally. Took a couple of weeks after the release until I found a copy of Sugar #3. I never realized how popular it was. (Either that or the local stores severely understocked it.)

Eventhough I live in So Cal where anime stores are fairley pentiful I still order most of my stuff online. You get some reallly good deals online. In fact one of the online stores I usually shop at is having a big sale on all ADV titles. Wooohoo over 50% off adv dvds, gonna be a rough month here Luckly I already ordered cresendo

I too live in Southern California, but most of my anime buying goes online. Every once in a while, I’ll buy from Best Buy, but I’d say 95% of the time, I buy online, mostly because of the cheaper prices, and usually there’s no tax and sometimes no shipping either. And what store do you shop at that has the ADV sale, wanfu? There’s a few that I am a regular customer at, because I trust them, and apparently, they’re not the one with the ADV sale. There’s one with a permanent discount on Anime 18 titles, which are mostly around eleven dollars.

I know Right Stuf is having a rather nice ADV and SoftCel sale. Not sure if he meant that one though…

I do some online shopping but it really depends. Since most free shipping offers don’t apply to Hawaii, the savings usually comes out to maybe a buck or two. I’d rather spend those extra dollars at a local store and help them out. (Though it reminds me, there’s some soundtracks I’d better order before I forget again… )

Yup, Rightstuf is having a studio sale this week which is ADV. They usualy have a different special sale every week, that or a useful coupon. Few weeks ago it was 30% off everything in stock, and if you have a membership with them you get an extra 10% off so it was 40% off everything they had instock. Spent a little more than I should have on manga and anime in that sale

Guess I should have mentioned softcel since they are the hentai arm of ADV.

Oh, Rightstuf. I don’t order from them. I think it’s because of the high shipping rate. Not positive. The only thing I semi-ordered from them is the Sugar Vol. 2 replacement DVD. Waffo!

I order my Anime almost exclusively through Right Stuf. It may be a little more expensive but, at least in my experience, their customer service dept. is second to none.

“His last thought is wry, Not bad for a dead man.” Moon Knight vol.1, #1 (1980)

I’d like to chime in here if I may…

I recommend DVD Pacific for anime DVD, particularly for non-US customers. Here is why.

- They have discounts between 25%-40% depending on the distributor (typical ADV title $17-18)

- They charge just $5 + $1 per disc for international priority airmail (so 4 discs = $9 shipping) and even cheaper surface shipping. Shipping to the UK is about a week.

- Their customer service is unbelievable - I usually get an email response within a couple of hours, and once on a Sunday!

- They are customs friendly

In short, I love DVD Pacific.
