The Da Capo thread of everlasting sakura trees and delays

Here’s my writeup on the game release:
http://novelnews.net/2008/12/25/mangaga … christmas/

Yeah, I think this was either a search-replace issue or a general guidelines issue and the proofreaders didn’t have access to the voice files and/or couldn’t read the Japanese. The difference here is actually kind of important though…

This is my first time playing the game at all (in any language), and I found this set of lines just totally awesome:

I’d really like to compare the translation with the original Japanese for the narration, though. I’ve spotted some areas where the translation was a bit funky, but could only do so for the dialogue parts.

EDIT: Changed permalink URL

No mention of them possibly rewriting the whole test?
Based on the Japanese guides,
the best translation i’v gotten is
[a]: The [ke] it is and is to be
[i]: Watermelon
[u]: Same
[i]: Weakness
[i]: Approve the opinion of others simply
[u]: Peony rice cake
[u]: Stopping falling down
[a]: Asakura sound dream
[a]: Setting sun
[a]:

The answers that do make sence, don’t fit into the questions at all.
Cept for 8 and 10, which are the same in both languages

3 more choices left till i complete Nemu’s story. Enjoyed it so far except for the test!

Edit:
Utamaru is the best character in the game

I found the play-through videos on nicovideo, so I’ve been able to look more into this. Okay, here’s the test in Japanese:

→ C) dou (the kanji for same)
(This is a four-character phrase borrowed from the Chinese wu2yue4tong2zhou1, literally “Wu and Yue are in the same boat”, referring to the kingdoms in the Chunqiu era of Chinese history)

  4. Fill in the blank: ____nikukyoushoku
    A) yaki
    → B) jaku
    C) yawa
(This is a four-character phrase borrowed from Chinese, meaning “only the strong survive”, etc.)

  5. What is the meaning of fuwaraidou? (means to follow the crowd)
    A) Going to change your course of action immediately

    B) Diary of a Vagabond
    C) Onna no Issho

  10. Let’s test your intuition.
    A)
    B)
    C)
    (Yes they’re all blank)

It’s a good thing they didn’t try to translate this quiz. It would make almost no sense to a typical reader. Though I kind of wish they had retained the humor in the second question. Having the original Japanese there allowed me to spot a few more mistakes, like…
She replied with a smile, something that would convert the 10 million people in the entire nation who love little sisters into fawning slaves.
got translated as…
She replied with a smile. I love my sister so much.

i understand why they changed the quiz and made it so that the questions are more “general” knowledge, i mean… i wouldnt know the answers or where to get them for most of those you just listed… and if i did find a site, it would be translated and might be hard for me to pick up the meaning…

I kind of feel left out since I started the thread even though I’m not planning to buy it. Maybe I’ll consider it if impressions are really positive.

The error finding reminds me that MG still hasn’t sent me a compiled version of Suika to make a final playthrough. There’s only a month left, so they really need to do it soon… unless they forgot. It’d really help with cleaning up the small issues people are complaining about.

Heh, I’m not sure I’d actually play through the game, though if I get bored then perhaps I’d waste some time on it. I’m more interested in Suika, though… I suppose I should dust off my PS2 at some point and play that.

anyone got a walkthrough for the game

I’v been following a Japanese guide, fairly easy to follow cept for the test.

Since the game wasn’t completely in English before this, i wouldn’t really expect an English guide yet. I don’t believe any of Mangagamers games have guides…actually.

can you post it

Oddly enough, a fansub group that subbed the Da Capo anime made the same mistake.

So anyway, since it sounds like the translation for this one is good, I’ll definitely be buying this tomorrow.

One thing, though this may be a little off topic, I’ve only been watching a bit of the anime so far so I should ask this; should I continue watching it or should I just go with the game and forget about the anime. I basically just want to know if the anime is worth watching or not.

if you do post it please use the spoilers as i dont wanna see it, im still enjoying the game on my first run and dont need it spoiled yet, thanks

i gotta by it tomorrow too be my aunt got my a best buy gift card instead of a visa gift card like i told her to get me
unless i can find somewhere open that has credit card gift cards

I think the general rule is to always play the game first. It’s usually better and would be more enjoyable if you didn’t know the story beforehand.

Da Capo Japanese guide:
http://www.foolmaker.net/game/t/dc.html

I’v completed Nemu so far.

is altavista or google good enough or would i need a real translator
but even if that work i would need to get another greendot card to buy this
what is better suika or da capo
i need to decide since i won’t have the money to get both till i get a new job

I use babelfish to translate it, and it’s pretty much made sence.

Honestly, if i had to choose only 1, it would be Suika. It’s been confirmed that Mangagamer has the license to the Da Capo remake/re-release. So I’d purchase that one instead.
I only purchased the original Da Capo since i want Mangagamer to continue, when you think about it…if we want to see the Da Capo re-release come out we have to help them stay in business long enough for them to release it.

15 more days till ‘Sandwiched by my wife and her sister’

30 more days till ‘Suika’

45 more days till ‘Suck My Dick or Die!’

88 more days till ‘The Queen and Princess as your rewards’

I wonder when the website will update to reflect that they plan to release:
Da Capo Plus Communication ( CIRCUS )
Kira Kira ( OVERDRIVE )
Kira Kira Curtain Call ( OVERDRIVE )
Edelweiss Eiden Fantasia ( OVERDRIVE )

MangaGamer just pulled Da Capo from release until January 20th, due to a bug in the game. Hire some QA people, please. Everybody is sick of games being available for a few hours, then suddenly taken down and delayed.

Not in the least bit surprised. They still don’t seem to understand it’s better to release a PATCH instead of pulling the whole game.

I swear they have a retarded monkey running their operations with all these horrible business decisions.

if the company last till the end of next year it will be a miracle

I look forward to Peter coming in and swallowing the broken pieces into his eroge zaibatsu. Then we’ll get lower prices and releases on disc.
